The "Edisonian approach" is a method of invention relying on massive-scale, systematic trial-and-error rather than pure theoretical deduction.
You can theory your way into a successful product line - sure, all ideas, good and bad, should start at the theory level - but when it comes time to put rubber to the road you better start "making and breaking" your way to the final product.
Here's another installment of my Emcat+ System R&D Series, taken in the TargetCoatings EmtechLab in New Jersey.
