Factory-primed poplar moulding does far more than save time on the jobsite — it improves the long-term performance of the trim itself. Unlike raw, unprimed wood, factory-primed poplar is better protected against moisture absorption, helping reduce swelling, shrinking, joint movement, and grain raise over time.

In this video, we break down why premium builders, painters, and architects prefer factory-primed poplar moulding, how controlled factory priming creates a smoother and more consistent paint surface, and why back priming all sides of the moulding can improve stability even further.

We also explore the labor savings compared to field priming raw material on site — including reduced prep work, sanding, drying time, and handling.

For projects focused on sharp shadow lines, crisp profile detail, and long-term durability, fully primed poplar moulding remains one of the best paint-grade trim solutions available.

Now that’s fresh, bright & clean lumber! Average travel time direct from the mills in Washington & Oregon to your jobsite when purchasing from Kuiken Brothers = 4-6 weeks.

There is a reason that the lumber that we deliver to your project looks brighter than most other suppliers. We operate 5 locations with rail siding which allows us to purchase enough material to fill a rail car and ship directly from the mills in Washington & Oregon. We rarely rely on local distribution where material could sit for weeks.

Tight miters. Clean reveals. Zero shortcuts.

Featuring our KB104 Federal style casing, this is a highlight reel of the full video we posted on our YouTube channel as .building walks through the key steps behind a high-end window trim install—from ripping out factory jambs and dialing in extension jambs, to precise layout, scribed stools, and perfectly aligned casing.

You’ll also catch:• Centerline layout for symmetry• Preassembled casing for flawless miters• Domino joinery + glue techniques• Minimal nailing for a cleaner finish• Apron details that actually support the design

This is just the highlight reel—full breakdown shows every step behind a window package that still looks tight months later.

The secret to a good moulding profile? Shadow lines.

Shadow lines are everything when it comes to properly milled moulding selections. This cornice was created with two of our stock poplar moulding profiles. KB267 base moulding and the KB342 stepped cove are all it takes to make this modern cornice with a classical edge.

This Greek Revival crown moulding was created for one of our finish carpenters looking to replicate a beautiful plaster cornice in a Hudson Valley historic farmhouse that had fallen into disrepair. Full disclosure, we have nothing but love and respect for our friends on the plaster side of the industry. They pushed the envelope early on and created truly stunning interiors. But truth be told, we are in business to support and supply our finish carpenter customers who are on-site installing all of the millwork in a home or commercial space. We’ll always go the extra mile to keep them on-site and working through all details, and this was our solution. This cornice has now been installed from coast to coast in some of the most stunning new old homes. All of these profiles are milled from poplar, creating these sharp and intentional shadow lines. Comment Greek Revival and we’ll DM you a link to download this CAD file and all of the measurements to see if this cornice will work on your project. We can offer alternatives to achieve a similar look.
