For years, you didn’t look for the CAG sign. You looked for the yellow tractor.

Before CAG had the signage you see today, much of the business grew through word of mouth. Customers heard about the shop from other customers—and when they came looking for us, the yellow tractor in the yard let them know they were in the right place.

A lot has changed over the years, but the relationships behind this business are still a big part of who we are.

Now, thankfully, we have a sign too.

Your flooring guy didn't tell you this. We will.

Kiln-dried hardwood isn't just a label. It means the wood has been dried to a specific moisture content so it won't warp, crack, or shift after installation.

Most wood sold at big box stores is air-dried or barely dried. It looks fine in the store. It doesn't always look fine 6 months after it's installed.

We kiln-dry the majority of our wood in-house. We know exactly what moisture content it's leaving at. That's the difference.

He brought us the wood from his backyard.

When the trees came down, he didn't want to lose them. And because there were several different species of trees on the property, the wood naturally had different colors and characteristics.

Instead of letting it go to waste, we turned that mix of wood into flooring, interior panels, and furniture for the bunk beds. That variety of species is what gives the finished space so much natural color variation.

That's what we call Tree to Treasure. You bring the trees. We handle the rest.

Most wood companies buy wood.

We start with a log.

Full log-to-finish milling has been CAG's process for 27 years. That means every piece that leaves this shop has been milled, kiln-dried, and finished in-house by people who've been doing this longer than most suppliers have existed.

No shortcuts. No middlemen. Just the log and the result.

Remember that hog trap we’ve been working on? Here’s the finished product.

The trap is built with four 16' panels, steel reinforcements, and a grain setup designed to draw the hogs in and keep them contained. And of course, we had to test the trigger.

Around here, maintenance sometimes turns into an opportunity to make something even better.

After Josh broke the bush hog, the guys got to work making repairs and improvements. That meant heating and straightening metal, cutting a thick piece for reinforcement, and getting everything back where it needed to be.

It’s all part of the constant maintenance that keeps things moving around CAG Specialty Wood. There’s always something to build, fix, mill…or apparently break.

Not every project that comes through the shop is quite what you’d expect.

A little weekend “work” turned into making a pig trap door, because around here, apparently even the pigs get custom woodworking.
