We are saddened to share that Lloyd Cox passed away peacefully early Sunday morning at the age of 97. Lloyd was a beloved member of our Rotary family and will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his sons, Virgil and Randy, and his daughter, Judy. He also leaves behind a beautiful legacy through his grandchildren, including Taylor, a fellow Rotarian, and his cherished great-grandchildren. His beloved wife Madelyn preceded him in death in 2013.

Lloyd was a second-generation Harrisburg Rotarian, following in his father’s footsteps. His service to the Rotary Club of Harrisburg began in 1970-71 as a Director, and again in 1978-79. He then served as Vice-President in 1979-80, and proudly led our club as President in 1980-81.

A true patriot, Lloyd voluntarily joined the U.S. Army during World War II—at what we believe was the young age of 15. He served as a Gunner flying reconnaissance in a PBY aircraft, and after the war, played a key role in informing remote Japanese-held islands that the war had ended.

Services will be held this Friday:
Visitation at 10:00 a.m.
Service at 11:00 a.m.
(Location details to follow soon.)

At the request of his son Virgil, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rotary Club of Harrisburg in honor of Lloyd’s incredible life and legacy of service.

While many of us show up for the camaraderie, Taylor stands out for his commitment to getting things done. Whether it's leading the Scholarship Committee with insight and thoughtfulness or blazing the trail for growth and change within our club, Taylor's actions speak volumes.

Taylor's proactive approach and willingness to lead by example make him an invaluable asset to our Rotary community. He is the epitome of a Rotarian who not only understands the importance of service but actively strives to make a difference.

Rotarian of the Month
April 2024

One does not have to be very perceptional,
To tell this Rotarian is quite exceptional.

Most of us show up for a little fun,
But he also comes to get r done.

Here to perform, not just to keep a chair warm.
Our man keeps the Scholarship Committee humming,
With his insight and thoughtfulness forthcoming.

As they say, “Lead, follow or get out the way.”
Step aside and get behind, ‘cause he’s coming through.
Showing us the way for what Rotarians are meant to do.

Just what this club needs,
Growth and change require someone to plant the seeds.
And all our efforts to make sure it succeeds,

This is our man of action and thinker outside that box,
And our Rotarian of the Month, Taylor Cox

We just had our annual Cox Hardware Staff Christmas Party last night! Our shindig was catered by Don Carlos Mexican Restaurant, and we had a modified White Elephant gift opening where folks could either open a present or steal someone else's! Lots of fun, great gifts, and laughter.
