Good morning everyone! As we wind things down in our last week of doing business, we want to thank you for your many years of support at Lewter Hardware. We love our customers and our community and will miss serving you.

Also, some answers to the questions we’ve been hearing the most lately. First of all, the cats will be well taken care of by our own, Jincy Lewter. They will be well loved and cared for in their new home. Secondly, we will have a customer appreciation cookout from 11-12 on Saturday, October 8th, our last hoorah and ”thank you” to the best customers anyone could ask for. Finally, everything that does not sell from inventory, or anything that is store property (vehicles, equipment, etc.) will be auctioned by Van Massey Auction and Realty. Link below.

Every town in the South used to have a hardware store like Huntsville's Lewter Hardware, one that sold more than nuts and bolts and screws and had knowledgeable people who knew where everything was.

Arrangements for Donnie’s funeral:

There will be a graveside service at 11 at Maple Hill Cemetery, tomorrow, Wednesday 7/27/22.

We will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday 7/27/22 in honor of Donnie, and to attend the funeral.

Thank you again for the outpouring of love to the Lewter family and to the Lewter Hardware family.

As many of you have already heard, we are grieving the loss of Lewter Hardware’s very own, Donnie Lewter. We are shocked by this sudden loss and appreciate the abundance of love shown from the community. A sincere thank you from the bottom of our hearts to those who reached out to the family and to the store today. Arrangements are being made through Laughlin Service Funeral Home. When final arrangements are made I will post them on this page and they will be available to see on Laughlin’s website. Again, thank you for your love and support during this difficult time.

We have closed for the day. Between this past Saturday and today we have sold out of all non electric heaters and many other winter weather supplies. We will be playing it by ear for tomorrow. Stay safe everyone!

Thanksgiving Day: Closed
Friday 11/27: 7-5

Afternoon everyone,
We will be closing for at least the next couple of days. One of our employees has been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID. Out of an abundance of caution we will close until they get their results and go from there. As always, thanks for your support and business.

Update:
Afternoon everyone! Thankfully the we had an isolated incident with only the one employee testing positive for COVID. WE WILL BE OPENING BACK UP AT 7 AM TOMORROW MORNING! We have a plexiglass barrier in place in front of the main register, and we will be taking temperatures of employees before we begin the work day. I also want to address something we saw on social media. We were never forced to close by the City of Huntsville for any reason. As soon as we found out we had an employee test positive, we closed the store, and had all other employees tested. We were open, honest and transparent with you. Admittedly, we were late in the wearing of mask protocol, and we ask that if we offended/worried/bothered you while we were not wearing them for your forgiveness, and a second chance to be your go to hardware store (92 years and going!). Thank you to everyone who reached out and offered thoughts and prayers and condolences. We care for and appreciate each and every one of you. We look forward to seeing you all again!

Dear customers:
One of our employees has tested positive for COVID. We will now be closed for at least the remainder of the week. We will be deep cleaning the store and all other employees will be tested to make sure no one else is positive. Thank you for your support.

Good morning Lewter family! We wanted to let everyone know that as COVID-19 has begun to spike again, we will begin taking more precautions to keep everyone safe. Starting yesterday all employees began wearing masks, and we ask that if at all possible, if you stop by to wear a mask yourself and adhere to the 6’ social distancing. We are also STILL offering curbside service if you would prefer to not come into the store (we ask that you would allow for some time to gather the item/s since we have been experiencing a busier than normal flow of customers).
