While you're doing the gutters, look at where the downspouts empty. They should drop water 𝗮𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲. If they don't, 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝘁𝗲𝗻-𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗷𝗼𝗯.

The most common reason a mower won’t start in spring is the gas left in it in October. It goes stale and gums up the carburetor. This week our Bargersville store is winterizing mowers, so bring yours in through Sunday. Doing it yourself? Run the tank dry, or add stabilizer and run it a few minutes.

If you can still see grass through the leaves, 𝗿𝘂𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺. The shredded leaves break down over the winter and feed your lawn.

Most people clean their gutters once, and too early. If they’re clogged now, do a quick pass. Save the real cleaning for after most of the leaves are down, before the first hard freeze.

Cool and rainy today, but the weekend looks dry and mild. And next week's nights are headed for the low 40s.

That makes this weekend a good time to check your doors. Close one on a dollar bill and pull. If it slides out easily, the seal is worn out and the cold will find its way in.

The heat’s about to come on for the season. The small fixes are cheaper before it does.
A door sweep for the daylight under the back door. Weatherstripping where the old seal has flattened out. A fresh bead of caulk where the old one cracked. Most of it is a Saturday morning’s work.

Last week we said exterior paint needs warm nights. So does exterior caulk.
Most caulk needs dry surfaces and temperatures around 40°F or warmer to cure. The label tells you exactly. Central Indiana nights get there in October, which makes the next few weekends the good ones.
