Metal coatings are an easy add-on service for contractors already working with residential and commercial customers. πͺ
Most customers already have metal surfaces that need attention β gates, railings, dumpster enclosures, awnings, pole barns, structural steel, equipment, and metal buildings.
Here are the questions contractors keep asking us:
1. Do I have to blast everything?
Not always. For many residential and commercial jobs, blasting is not required. 9100 ROC Epoxy can be used over SP-2 hand prep, including wire brushing, scraping, and solvent wiping. Noxyde is also a great option when working over surface rust with less prep involved. Blasting is typically reserved for immersion service or higher-spec industrial environments.
2. What if my customer canβt afford the industrial spec?
Thatβs where RocAlkyd 7400 comes in. Itβs an easy-apply alkyd enamel, available in 17 packaged colors, and gives contractors a value-priced option when the job doesnβt call for a full industrial coating system.
3. How do I price the labor?
Material on a 9100 + 9800 system runs roughly $1.50/sq ft. Labor markup can vary by job type, prep, access, and project size, but common ranges are:
Residential metal work: $4β$6/sq ft
Commercial steel: $3β$5/sq ft
Metal buildings: $2β$3/sq ft
