Everybody wants to know what a remodel costs, and nobody wants to answer. So here’s Maddie walking through what actually moves the number.

Cabinets are the biggest one. Stock cabinets are pre-made and ready to go, which keeps costs down. Semi-custom gives you standard sizes with modifications so they fit your space properly. Fully custom is its own tier.

The other thing that swings it hard is changing your layout. The second you move plumbing or electrical, you’re also into new flooring and whatever’s hiding under your old cabinets. That’s where budgets get away from people.

Countertops run the same range. Entry level granite and quartz all the way up to luxury. None of this means you can’t do it. It means there are real choices at every price point, and knowing which ones matter is most of the battle.

Everyone around here has a beige kitchen. You don’t have to.

Five cabinet doors sitting in our showroom right now, and not one of them is builder beige.

Ridgeside Iron Ore by Sole Design. Near black, flat finish. Looks expensive because it is confident, not because it is loud. Best in a kitchen with good natural light.

Blount Connected Gray by Sole Design. A soft olive that reads green in daylight and gray at night. The safest way to leave neutral behind.

Rockford Force by Sole Design. Deep navy with a beaded panel. This is the one people come in nervous about and leave having ordered.

Ashland Hickory by Mouser. Not painted at all. Real hickory with the grain left visible, weathered and warm without being orange.

Penbrooke Quarter Sawn Oak by Mouser. Reeded front, warm oak. The most current thing on this list and the one you will still like in ten years.

Here’s the thing about picking cabinet color from a screen: your phone is lying to you about every one of these. Color shifts completely depending on which way your windows face and what your countertop is doing next to it.

Come hold them against your own countertop sample. That is what the showroom is for.

Okay this one was fun.

The wall between the kitchen and the dining room is gone, and honestly that alone changed everything. It’s the same square footage but it feels twice as big now.

New cabinets, new floors, new backsplash, new lighting, new appliances. Basically everything except the windows.

We love how the two tone turned out. The navy on the bottom keeps it from feeling washed out and the lighter uppers keep it from feeling heavy.

The $100 one is the right call for a small dining room on a budget.
The $800 one is where most people should land over a dining room table that wants a little more statement.
