WHAT A DAY! 💯🌳

Our 100-Year Celebration was more than just an anniversary—it was a testament to the incredible community that has built alongside W.B. Howland Co. since 1926.

We are still buzzing from the energy and the overwhelming turnout from our Suwannee Valley neighbors!

Here is a look at what it takes to celebrate a century:
🍗 Thousands of servings of chicken pilau, smoked chicken legs, and hot dogs were enjoyed!
🍦 Hundreds of gallons of hand-dipped ice cream were eaten (the perfect way to beat the Florida heat!).
⏳ We officially dedicated our Centennial Time Capsule, preserving our history for the next 100 years.
🏅 We were honored to recognize our dedicated employees with 10+ years of service—the backbone of our operation.

A Historic Honor:
The highlight of the day was a visit from the Mayor, who officially declared March 28th as "W.B. Howland Co. Day" in the City of Live Oak! 🗝️✨ We are incredibly proud of Lyn Fletcher, Bill Howland, and Barbara Howland, who were presented with a Key to the City in recognition of their decades of service, generosity, and commitment to our community.

A Century of Roots. A Legend on Leave – Terry the Billboard Worker👷‍♂️

Our new billboard was unveiled last week, honoring our 100 Years of Service at our current location. If you’ve driven past, you might have noticed a familiar face is missing. We decided that in honor of Howland's celebrating 100 Years, Terry deserved more than just a pat on the back. After 20+ years of 24/7 shifts through hurricanes, tornadoes, and countless summer heatwaves and thunderstorms, our legendary billboard worker, Terry, is currently riding first class to a tropical destination for a well-earned vacation. 🏝️✈️

While Terry is off-duty, check out our new Centennial Billboard honoring a century of serving our region. Don’t worry—Terry will be back in a few weeks, hopefully with a tan and a fresh work ethic!

W.B. Howland Co. is turning 100 YEARS OLD and we’re celebrating in a big way.

Join us Saturday, March 28 | 10AM–2PM at the Main Store for a full day of fun, community, and celebrating a century of service.

A Legacy Replanted 🌳

For over 100 years, the old pecan tree stood as a silent witness to our history. It shaded the original 1926 store and spent the last five decades greeting you in our front parking lot. While the old tree has finally come to rest, its spirit isn't going anywhere.

Today, we are proud to announce the planting of a new pecan tree in its place! This isn't just any tree—it’s a direct descendant of the original tree on the Howland homestead, the site of the 1880s Clayland era store where our Suwannee County journey first began. This continues a journey that traces back to the 1843 Madison County store and numerous other locations spanning back to Plymouth, England even before the arrival of John Howland on the Mayflower in 1620.

A massive thank you to Mickey Boatright and family, who now own the old homestead, for allowing us to bring this ​tree home. We also want to thank Huntsman Tree Service for their expertise in safely relocating and planting this piece of history.

Here’s to the next 100 years of shade and growth!

Is your family history hidden in our archives?📜

As we prepare for our 100th Anniversary, we’re looking back at where it all started. These images are from a 1915 ledger belonging to the father of our founder, W.B. Howland.

It’s more than just a book of business—it’s a snapshot of our town’s history.

Before there was a "W.B. Howland Co.," there was a young man with a vision and a horse-drawn wagon. These ledger entries tell a story of family and ambition: a young W.B. Howland purchasing goods from his father, John Phillip Howland, at the 1880's era Clayland predecessor store. He was speculating on the future of Florida, transporting those very goods to the rugged, early settlers of Suwannee County. Every hand-written line in this book represents the tools and supplies that helped build the foundations of our community.
