What makes doing business with us different? We tell the truth about the garbage sold as flooring. For example:

Vinyl, laminate, and LVT are all the same petroleum based products.

Does anyone remember in 2018 when the plastic straw got stuck in the sea turtles’ nose? The video went viral and people were (justifiably) horrified, and some places banned plastic straws. Ok, so the industry tells us we (planet) use 500 million plastic straws per day, which is a very big number. However, in 2024 5.8 billion square feet of plastic floors were sold, and in 5 -7 years they will be in the local landfill. Remember, this stuff cannot (or isn’t) recycled meaning in just a few years we will be dumping 15.9 million sq feet per day into those landfills, as they are replaced. So, since 1000 square feet of plastic floors equates to ½ million plastic straws; we are dumping the equivalent of 9 billion plastic straws per day into the ground.

We have been sold a bill of goods, and been led to believe that laminate and LVT are somehow benefiting the planet because real trees were not used.

The truth? This floor pictured below will outlive a dozen laminate ones; in fact, it will be the last thing salvaged before the house falls down one day. Probably repurposed as a table top or accent wall, but it will not be in a landfill leaking chemicals into our groundwater.

The design process is first and foremost about the new hardwood floors because they will immediately set the tone and style for the entire home. The lagniappe, or all the extras are what make us far more than just a flooring manufacturer; stairs, trim, siding, walls, ceilings, accent walls, multi-species options, antiquing (for age) and so much more.

Create
To create your flooring and accessories, Bayou Rustics breaks the mold in that you are not limited to 3 ¼ or 5” floors that are 3’ long at most.We use our mill direct unfinished partners for your floor guaranteeing quality as well as length. Our unfinished boards are sent to Reidsville, NC and one of the most advanced finishers in that they are not limited to standard UV Aluminum Oxide. Our partner invested in new equipment and in the future which is natural finishes, penetrating oils plus they are able to accommodate those that want a “green finish”, we offer Monocoat by Rubio.

Our selections from 2017-2024 are shown below, these are all unique in that they are Monocoat Zero VOC finished using their 2 - C process more commonly known as the undercoat which is clearly visible when you look at the edges of the boards. The undercoat wraps those edges that are not beveled but have been scraped and shadowed depending on the floor.

If you were asked if real wood, as in 100% real, from trees is more eco-friendly than a composit such as Luxury Tile? Well, one of them last forever, or to be more specific; it will be the last thing of value salvaged and repurpased one day when the home is gone.

In 2018, in response to a viral video of a plastic straw being removed from a sea turtle’s nose, plastic straws were banned in communities throughout the world. Experts estimate that 500 million single-use plastic straws are used every day, making up a sizable portion of the plastic products thrown away daily.
By comparison, in 2024, 5.8 billion square feet of plastic flooring were sold. A little simple math reveals that equates to 15.9 million square feet per day. And since most plastic flooring has a warranty of only 5-10 years, and most cannot be recycled, that translates to a lot of plastic straws. A lot. In fact, just 1,000 square feet of luxury vinyl tile equates to about 570,000 plastic straws. At 15.9 million square feet daily, that equates to more than 9 billion plastic straws each and every day.
