The great thing about demo is not the destruction....but the reclamation. The ability to see new possibilities in the discarded old hard growth pine 2x4's. On the rebuild, we had to move some walls, so relocated the support system with three 2" x 16" x 20-25ft beams.

Looking ahead to Christmas Wish Lists, let's review our American-girl-size doll house/book shelves. These two Doll Houses were made from all reclaimed materials. Note the wood floors, made from recycled flooring, and the shingles on the roof are from reclaimed cedar shakes. The houses have three floors. Option A has four rooms, and an attic. Option B has six rooms. The overall height is 6ft, and 2ft wide. Because of their size and weight, they are designed to be wall anchored with no front outside facade offered. All other custom designs came be added to fit any specific wish.

The end of April into May was a busy time while we did finish work on the large garage we also worked on the mother in law apartment. Nothing like a 5 car garage with a lot of space up stairs, apartment is coming along nicely.

When creating a new piece from salvaged materials, I first allow myself the time to visualize the potential design details. I do this by taking pictures of the chosen raw materials to reference as I study examples, and create the design.
I don't own a lathe to turn legs, so I cut and carve until I get the look that I had visualized.

As we entered March, CoVid reared its ugly head. Fresh healthy produce was scarce. So we started to make changes to our winter garden to create a more consistent growth cycle. And we assembled hydroponic towers from on-hand, repurposed materials. This set in motion a new process of self sustaining gardening with repurposed materials.

Graceful Salvage Post 8/30/20

In the later part of February, we found ourselves helping Timmerman Construction to restore a house, built in the late 1800's, in Waxahachie. The job included removing and replacing the crawl space skirt.
One of the things I love about "Restoring the Past" is when we are able to redeem Historical Gems by replacing broken or ill-fitting substitutions with available period pieces of like provenance.. which is what we did with the some of the thirty doors in this old house. Look at all that hardware!
