So we made it official today. Im closing up shop for the time being. We are moving in a couple months to Massachusetts (back to MA for me, first time for my wife) for her new job. Looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones. I hope I can get back to woodworking quickly.

Work in progress on this stained poplar wooden display box to hold a signed film script for all the world to see. Also done, just need to add the side hinge, magnets to hold it closed, and foam insert.

I was working on a new project this week. Prototype for a shadowbox frame for movie scripts. Here is one signed script from 's film that I just got autographed by the man himself and .

The next version (and the one that will be for sale on my website) will be made from poplar (due to the low pH to make sure no acid leeches onto the pages from the wood). I may also use glassine instead of plexi for the same reason. The script is sitting on 1/2 foam for added protection, and you can open the case from the front as it is held together by magnets! Now you'll be able to keep your signed or collectible movie scripts safe, sound, and out in the open!

Special thanks to for the use of your brain when mine wasn't working

A little bit ago I teased a project I was working on. I'm a big movie fan and used to work at a studio in Los Angeles. I also was a film critic for indie films for about 10 years! I recently got an augraphed picture from one of my favorite horror film "final girls", Heather Langenkamp from A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET.

I couldn't just put this in a boring frame so I decided to make my own to honor her and one of the best flicks ever made.

The frame itself is just simple pine scrap wood I had left from a few projects ago. I ran the wood across my router table to create a sunken rounded edge in the middle, and then used my dado stack on my table saw to create a channel for the backing board.

I fired up my laser attached to my x-carve to make the burned claw marks. I then taped off the segments and did the paint job with simple Rustoleum spray primer/paint.

Once the paint was dry I literally took a blowtorch to it to add texture and burn marks around the frame to really get the "Here's Freddy!" vibe.

After that it was as simple as cutting out the right size plexiglass and hardboard backing. I added a brown mat to fit the color scheme and aside from mounting hardware, that was it.

I'm looking forward to my next couple projects which I will also tease as they move forward!
