THE ReCONN COMMUNITY COLLECTIVELY REUSED 2½+ TONS OF SHEETROCK!
In less than one year, the ReCONN community has diverted and reused an estimated 5,000 pounds, or 2½ tons, of Sheetrock.
We plan to get a more precise number, but our conservative estimates are impressive enough.
What began as a large donation from Lowe’s of mixed stacks of ½-inch and ⅝-inch drywall turned into a 6 month adventure as the ReCONN board of directors made our first attempt at handling and marketing such a huge volume of heavy material.
We had to figure out how to receive it, move it, sort it, protect it, price it, advertise it and help load it and find space to store it.
Six board members and a handful of dedicated volunteers handled the workflow and dozens of community members, many on repeat, kept showing up to save money and haul it away.
Thank you to everyone who was patient with us while we figured it out and found our footing under 2.5+ tons of drywall. Also, thanks for getting it out of here!!!!
Affordable materials. Less waste. A community willing to reuse what still has plenty of life left.
2½ tons of impact. Nicely done, team.
At this point we have very little undamaged Sheetrock available for purchase. We will continue to offer damaged edge sheetrock 4’x8’ for $5 per sheet.
In the spring we will reassess if there is more opportunity or capability to partner with big box donations.
We are always taking volunteers!!
