Saxophone legend Charles Lloyd stopped by Roberto’s Winds with a last-minute setup emergency right before his performance at Carnegie Hall in New York.
While Roberto worked his magic and got Charles’s Conn playing better than ever, I (TT) had the chance to repair the worn biteplate on his vintage Dukoff mouthpiece.
He was so happy with the fix that we ended up getting invited to the concert later that night. He also loved the RWReeds🎷

Swipe to see close-ups of the before & after, plus a playtest video. A truly effective refacing shows how easily both the altissimo and low registers respond since most setups already perform “ok” in the midrange.
This mouthpiece came in dull and slightly crooked. After carefully straightening the body, refining the facing curve, and reshaping the baffle accordingly, it really came back to life with more power and an improved control. After that you can hear me play-testing it.

TT Reface Demonstration and Testimonial on a Selmer Bass Saxophone Mouthpiece by the Talented Jarien Jamanila.
If you’ve ever been intrigued by the unique and captivating sound of the bass saxophone, having an efficient mouthpiece is key to unlocking its full potential.
For this demonstration, I made adjustments to the mouthpiece, opening it from approximately .080 to .100, as per Jariam’s request.
The goal was to ensure a smooth, even response across all registers while enhancing the sound’s openness and power.
This required also shaping the facing curve to match the specific combination of tip opening, inner geometry, and the reed strength he preferred.
Jariam used a 2.5M RW baritone reed in this video, which is compatible with most bass saxophone mouthpieces as well.
Even with some worn pads on his saxophone, Jarien’s sound is incredible, showcasing the magic of a well-refaced mouthpiece, made of course possible by him being the great player behind it!

Happy Birthday Big G! George Coleman turns 90 today! What an incredible human being, genius musician, kind and phenomenal teacher. The living history of Jazz! 🎷 I am truly blessed to be studying with the master and also have him play on my TT Mouthpieces since the pandemic. An encounter that started on mutual appreciation.
I am learning so much from him on jazz music and life: how to a NYC sax player ❤️

Close-ups of the new Hard Rubber TT Mouthpiece line for tenor sax.
Worked from a rod of premium German Ebonite. Original TT registered design and inner geometry.
It takes many hours of manual labor to smoothen the rough finish of my machined proprietary Ebonite blanks, especially the chamber, baffle rails etc. Notice the before and after effect among the different pictures here posted.
Each single piece is efficiently faced and play tested. It can be slightly altered to accommodate a customer’s preference and fine tuned to perfection, which beyond a certain level is subjective or personal.
It will be available for orders at Roberto’s Winds in NYC by the end of the week. Any dm inquiries are welcome for more info.
