Otto Link TT Refacing Week 🎷

Over the last two weeks, I’ve received multiple requests from different customers to reface and improve these iconic Otto Link mouthpieces.
This is going to be a fascinating project: bringing each piece back to its best potential while preserving the character and history of these classic models.

From left to right:
• New York Era Four Star Model
• New York Era Tone Master
• Florida Double Ring
• Florida USA Super Tone Master
• Florida Slant Signature HR
• Early Babbitt HR
• 1980s Super Tone Master

What makes this collection especially exciting is how these mouthpieces represent different chapters in Otto Link’s manufacturing history. Each era has its own characteristics, and each piece requires a different approach.

Time to get to work! 🔧🎷

Introducing a very limited edition run of my single-color ebonite TT Large Chamber Mouthpieces. Only three made in Red, Yellow, and Stone.
Swipe right after all the pictures to hear the incredible saxophonist Isaiah Collier, who already has one in his arsenal.
Like every hard rubber mouthpiece I produce, each piece begins with precision CNC machining and is then extensively hand-finished to meet my highest standards of sound and playability. These are crafted from true hard rubber ebonite, not plastic, not marbled, but solid, evenly distributed single-color material throughout. A lengthier process for a truly unique look and customization.

The signature of my refacing work is a focus on efficiency and balance. Almost any non-butchered mouthpiece will function in the middle registers, but a truly great piece allows both the lowest notes and the altissimo to speak effortlessly across all dynamic ranges.

Whether I am manufacturing my own line or working on a client’s mouthpiece, the objective remains the same: not simply to make it easier to play, but to provide even playability, power, control, and flexibility.

This requires many hours of meticulous, precise handwork - carefully shaping the baffle, window, floor, and facing curve to extract the best possible sound and performance from the geometry, frequently pushing past its limitations.

In the photos you can see a recent refacing I did on a rare, vintage New York Meyer (Large Chamber) for alto saxophone.
When it arrived, it was heavily oxidized and sat at a restrictive #2 tip opening. The client requested a modern .080” opening (roughly a Meyer 7). Along with the precise geometry work required to open it up and improve its functional shape, I restored the material itself, bringing back the deep, original color of the vintage hard rubber.

A beautiful message from my dear friend and wonderful NYC/NJ-based saxophonist, Tommy Morimoto, after receiving his hand-faced 3D printed TT Tenor Mouthpiece 7*.
Every time I hear Tommy play, I’m drawn in by the depth of his sound: massive, warm, focused, yet carrying edge and elegance evenly through every register. A truly mature signature tenor sound!

This short clip (even though it doesn’t refer to the gig night of the text message) captures that powerful tenor sound and musical personality that makes Tommy stand out 🎷🔥💪🏾😎💥

🎷 Fantastic performance by saxophonist & clarinetist Jonathan Kantor at the legendary Blue Note Jazz Club in New York City.
Jonathan is absolutely smashing it on his custom handmade sterling silver TT Mouthpiece Large Chamber model for tenor sax. Hearing him produce such a rich, profound, and captivating sound truly makes me happy.
I’m grateful to know Jonathan, not only an exceptional musician, but also a genuinely wonderful human being. It means a lot to hear artists like him bring my work to life in such a beautiful way. 🙏✨

Saxophone legend Charles Lloyd stopped by Roberto’s Winds with a last-minute setup emergency right before his performance at Carnegie Hall in New York.
While Roberto worked his magic and got Charles’s Conn playing better than ever, I (TT) had the chance to repair the worn biteplate on his vintage Dukoff mouthpiece.
He was so happy with the fix that we ended up getting invited to the concert later that night. He also loved the RWReeds🎷

TT Mouthpiece for Glissotar with Dániel Váczi & Jacob Collier!
It’s been a true pleasure collaborating with the talented musician Dániel Váczi, the visionary behind the Glissotar! This groundbreaking instrument offers modern musicians the freedom to craft new musical stories, unbound by the limitations of traditional note temperament. A truly inspiring innovation for the future of music! I designed this mouthpiece after studying the geometry of Tarogato mouthpieces and spending time with this beautiful instrument. Both available for sale at Roberto’s Winds in NYC 😎
