How do you design a brand-new restaurant in Rittenhouse Square that feels timeless from day one?

For Borromini Ristorante, the answer was in the details. Drawing from classic Roman architecture, sculptural vaulted arches, and carefully crafted tilework.

We partnered with Stokes Architecture and STARR Restaurants to bring this vision to life using our Subway Ceramics collection, blending historic authenticity with modern precision.

This is the part you don’t always see.

On Day 8 of 12 days of tiles we are celebrating what comes between the before and the after. The layout, alignment, and craftsmanship that bring a tile installation to life. This in-progress look shows how Viva Tile and Subway Ceramics work together, balancing texture, proportion, and historic character long before the final reveal.

It is a work in progress and worth the wait for your space to last decades to come work.

🌲 Trimming the tree is seasonal.
🛁 Trimming your bathroom is forever.

On Day 8 of our 12 Days of Tile, we’re spotlighting Subway Ceramic trim and accessories. These finishing pieces don’t just complete the look—they feature historically accurate profiles, durable ceramic craftsmanship, and thoughtful details that elevate both restorations and new builds.

Trim pieces aren’t just decorative, they’re essential to a proper tile installation.

1. Protect exposed edges
Trims and p-caps cover raw tile edges at transitions, corners, and terminations. This prevents chipping, cracking, and wear over time, especially in high-use areas like showers and backsplashes.

2. Create clean, finished transitions
They provide a smooth transition where tile meets another surface (painted walls, countertops, floors), eliminating sharp edges and uneven finishes.

3. Improve water management
In wet areas, trims help guide water away from vulnerable edges and seams, reducing the risk of moisture intrusion and long-term damage.

4. Accommodate movement and alignment
Linings and moldings help align courses of tile, hide minor inconsistencies, and allow for expansion is critical in historically accurate installations where tile sizes naturally vary.

5. Increase durability and longevity
By reinforcing edges and corners, trim pieces extend the life of the installation and help it age gracefully.

6. Maintain historical accuracy
Historically, trims, liners, and p-caps were standard practice, not optional extras. Using the correct profiles ensures restorations and period-inspired spaces look authentic—not flat or incomplete.
