The best transition is the one nobody notices.

At 1299 Third Avenue on the Upper East Side, the chevron runs from the living room into the kitchen as a single, unbroken floor. No threshold, no change in height, no line telling you where one room ends.

That kind of quiet is decided long before installation. The layout is set from the centerline so the points stay aligned across both spaces, and every room is leveled to meet at the same plane. In a room with this much texture, the floor's job is to hold everything together without asking for attention.

Herringbone, chevron or wide plank? From across the room they all just look like beautiful hardwood. Up close, each one is a completely different job.

Herringbone takes 2–3x longer to install. Chevron shows every mistake down the full length of the room. Wide plank moves with humidity, which is why we go engineered above 7 inches.

The right pattern depends less on taste and more on the room it's going into. Which one would you pick? 👇

Herringbone, chevron and wide plank all read as hardwood from across the room. Up close, each one asks for something different: a starting line, a mitred point, a stable core.

Choosing between them is less about taste than about the room the floor is going into.

A floor doesn’t end where the stairs begin. The treads and risers are where it either carries through or breaks.

Ours are built on site and matched to the floor around them, so the staircase reads as part of the same room. That’s true on a straight run, and even more on a curve, where every step is a different cut.

The process: kneeling on the subfloor, spreading adhesive by hand, setting each plank with a mallet.

The product: a lounge where nobody thinks about any of that. That’s the point.

"Free estimate" shouldn't mean a mystery. Here's exactly what's included, no pressure, no hidden step, no guessing from a screen.

With a view like this, the floor has a specific job: stay quiet enough to let the skyline lead, and still give the room structure. A smoky herringbone does both, running from the living room to the dining area to the study without a break in the pattern.

The detail worth noticing is the curved glass wall. A pattern this geometric has to follow that curve edge to edge, which leaves very little room for a misaligned cut.

You already know this building from the outside. Here’s what we did on the inside: a new floor, glued down piece by piece, with every border fitted by hand.

This is the part of a project that never makes it into the skyline photo.
