Taking it back to 1965 as we gear up for the annual Stockyards City Stampede on October 17! Join us as we celebrate our Western heritage and the history that still makes us proud.
These photos capture John Wayne riding Stuart Ranch’s Stuarts Little Man through Oklahoma City to celebrate the opening of the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. The Duke led the parade through downtown OKC, with more than 100,000 people lining the streets.
More than 60 years later, we’re still proud of a good 7S horse and a story worth sharing.

Born 136 Years Ago Today in Kansas, the “Granddaddy of the Hillbillies” and One of Country Music’s First Full-Time Songwriters

Initially referred to as “hillbilly music,” country music’s influence exploded following the radio’s invention in the 1920s. In May 1924, Vernon Dalhart scored the first nationwide country hit with “Wreck of the Old ’97”. Another artist to emerge during this decade was Carson Robison, who accompanied Dalhart on guitar, harmonica, whistling, and harmony vocals on that landmark recording.
