These photos are from an attic we cleaned out.
The 1st picture is what it looked like before.
And the second is after we removed the old insulation.
As you can see in the second photo how wet the roof decking is.
This is a result of not having ventilation between the fiberglass and the roof.
The only time you do not need ventilation is when you densepack it with cellulose or spray it with foam.
Fiberglass does not provide enough of a resistance to heat and cold transfer to get away with no ventilation.

Another job in the books for this job we pulled a floor board in the attic. Filled each area between joist from front to back with insulation. Then replace the floor boards.This process keeps heat from leaving the home and keeps cold from coming down into the home or reverse depending on time of yr.

Another job done. The home owner was a gem, she could hear mice in the attic. Her attic had sprayed fiber glass, mice love that stuff. We vacuumed out all the old stuff through a big hose into a big bag and hawled it away. Sealed up all holes that left any air in or out and left any critters in. Then sprayed the new back into the attic. The new has boric acid that mice don't like. The new has more density so keeps more air in or out. The new is also fire retardant and mold resistant. Here is an attic we insulated.
It only had about an inch of cellulose batt which is something I have never seen.
We installed vents in the eves and installed 14 inches of blown on top.
I forgot to take after pictures.

If your attic looks like this you are losing money your heat and a/c is going straight through the roof!!
