So, a large portion of this profession is education of the public, who has been fed lies by marketing campaigns of these big box stores.
I had a potential customer balk at my kiln dried, yellow pine 2x4x12. I have them priced at $10 each, but she informed me that the studs at Lowe's were $5 and I was, essentially, over priced. When I told her I was cheaper than Lowe's, nothing took and it was wasted text.
I made this up to try to educate and explain the volumetric difference between a "stud" and an actual 2x4.
Based off of volume, because I sell everything by board foot, that stud from Lowe's is around $1.45/bf, meanwhile my 2x4x12 is $1.25/bf.
This is just a PSA so that if I'm asked to price match, and I raise my price, you'll understand why.
