Backus Family Lights

Backus Family Lights Animated Christmas light show in Penfied, NY All of the props, including the controllers are made, by hand, by our elves in the workshop.

Our Display

Since 2012, we've been setting up an animated light show dancing to music for our friends and neighbors to enjoy. Each of the lights in our display is individually controllable -- this means we can turn each light on or off individually and set it to any color we like. All of this is controlled by a piece of software called Vixen 3 running on a standard PC in the basement. Software

I

've been working with a great team from different countries around the world for the past couple years on a program called Vixen 3. This free and open-source software allows you to sequence lights to music. Go over to www.vixenlights.com to download the software and get started. You don’t even need hardware to get started.

Check out the new Mega Ball! 14 strands of 18 RGB lights. I plan to build 5 of these and hang them from the trees for the display this year. All the props in the display are custom designed and made in the basement. This Mega Ball was designed in Autodesk Inventor, cut on the 4kw laser at work and then put together with machine screws.
