The Building Center, Inc. The Building Center is a family owned & operated building material supplier based out of Pineville, NC.

The Building Center, Inc., founded in the Charlotte metro market in 1977, has grown into one of the largest non-publicly traded lumber and building products dealers in the US.

“We’ve built our business on providing excellent and consistent service to our builder customers,” said CEO and founder, Ed Norris. Accordingly, The Building Center maintains a fleet of over 300 trucks to service the Carolinas, with locations in Georgetown SC, Columbia SC, Holly Hill SC, Easley SC, Rock Hill SC, Pineville NC, Gastonia NC, Boone NC, Greensboro NC, Mebane NC, Monroe NC, and Ocean Isle Beach NC. The Building Center leverages its sizable regional presence to purchase and sell branded and commodity products at competitive market prices. Inventories are maintained and managed to meet the needs of individual markets, regional building practices, and metro architectural trends.

“Our mission is to be our customer’s most valued building partner,” said Skip Norris, President. “That means we have products he or she needs on hand, trucks to deliver, and manufacturing support throughout every inch of the Carolinas.”

This level of ready product availability and service includes truss plants in north and central North Carolina and millwork/door shops in both the Triad and Charlotte metro locations. Additionally, custom millwork and prefab components are built-in Pineville, which also sources and fabricates exotic wood products like reclaimed lumber flooring, siding, cabinetry, and mantles.

“At the end of the day, construction is a people business,” said Skip Norris. “We’re here to provide assistance and solutions to the hard-working customers we serve.”

A new custom home is taking shape in Eastover, NC! Working alongside .DESIGNBUILD, Charlotte’s modern design-build custom home builder, Sam Norris and The Building Center team are proud to support this project from the ground up. With a lot that presented some unique challenges, it’s exciting to see the structure coming together.

The framing is up, and the home is now wrapped with Huber ZIP System sheathing, helping create a strong, well-protected building envelope.

The Building Center supplied the floor and roof trusses, along with the framing materials for the project. We’re grateful for our partnership with .DESIGNBUILD and look forward to following this build all the way through completion.

The Building Center recently gathered at our Corporate Office in Pineville, NC, to celebrate the retirement of two longtime members of the TBC family—Dennis Andreasen and David Jordan.

Dennis is retiring after an incredible 31 years of service, and David after 25 years of service. Together, that’s 56 years of dedication to The Building Center!

During the celebration, TBC Founder Ed Norris, President Skip Norris, and Pineville Manager Buddy Ashley shared a few words about what makes The Building Center so special—our people and the strong sense of family that has grown over the years. We are incredibly grateful for employees like Dennis and David who have dedicated decades of their careers to TBC, and we’re proud to celebrate their many years of service and commitment.

The celebration also gave everyone a first look at our new TBC Hospitality Trailer! The new trailer will be hitting the road for future TBC events, giving our team a dedicated space to serve food and drinks while bringing employees, customers, vendors, and communities together.

Dennis and David, thank you for your hard work, loyalty, and the many contributions you’ve made to TBC over the years. Congratulations on your retirement, and best wishes for this exciting next chapter! Please join us in congratulating Dennis and David on their well-deserved retirement! 🎉
