This is one of my restoration projects Normally I would not do this much refinishing but this rifle had no matching numbers and the customer wanted it just to hang on a wall in his man cave. It is fully functional and the bore is bright with very good looking rifling.

As most all of you know I haven’t been doing much lately so their haven’t been any projects going on and consequently no posts. I just wanted to let you all know I’m still here.
Mostly to say Merry Christmas to all of you. I hope you have the best of Christmas’s and a safe and Happy New Years.
Make the most of every minute with family and friends. Enjoy the holidays for what they should be about, the birth of our Savior and the importance of faith and family.
Thank you all for your interest in one of my passions and hopefully I will have something else for you to look at. Once again........Merry Christmas.

Just been cruising around the web looking at some military surplus and wondering why the price are so artificially high. I have found one place that I like but the prices are really high there also but their is some interesting things to look at.

Finally finished this one as far as I’m going to take it. It’s an Ishapore Enfield made in 1965 in 7.62 cal. It was covered in old soaked in hardened cosmoline that was mostly black when I got it. The first two pictures are the before. With these old warriors I don’t like to do too much to them. I figure they have earned all their scars.

My latest project, the no.1 mklll has, as usual, taken on a life of its own and is telling me what I know and don’t know about the whole deal. Doing repairs is probably one of the easiest things I do. It’s when you start getting all the cosmoline and oil off a stock that the fun really begins.
What started out looking like one solid nasty color on a stock becomes two or three different kinds of wood. This was pretty standard during and after WWll. When a rifle came in to be repaired or refinished they would often use whatever wood was available from the millions of parts they had on hand. In some rifles that wasn’t bad but in others it could be a nightmare for someone like me to come along and try to give it a new life. So they pick up a buttstock of a really blond wood and stick it on a rifle that has very a dark walnut forearm and hand guards.
When you get it all cleaned and ready to refinish the fun begins. I am sneaking up on it but it is an exercise in luck and patience with hopefully a little knowledge pushing everything in the right direction.
Oh well, if it was easy I would know more about what I’m doing.... or something like that.

I found a period correct bayonet with all the right markings for the Enfield that I’m working on. Man, the internet is an asset that I never thought I would like but it sure makes researching and finding parts an almost likable task.

Got a new project in yesterday that I should be able to work on on my good, days. It won’t require a extra steady hand or a lot of artistic finesse just a good steady hand, attention to detail, and a work man like attitude.
This is a Ishapore rifle made in Ishapore, India by the Indian government. Unlike its British look alike instead of the usual .303 cal. this one is chambered in .308. After going thru it from one end to the other I feel like the most that is needed is a good through cleaning and draining about a gallon of oil and cosmoline from the stock. I think it is going to be a really good shooter and probably as accurate as most Enfield style rifles.
The Ishapore was made expressly for the Indian army and some police units and may still be in production.

Sold

If anyone is interested I have a Turkish Ma**er stock that is complete with all hardware. It has had a repair on the heel of the stock that was very well done and probably an armory fix a long time ago. Also have a ASFA marked Turkish bayonet that will fit the stock perfectly. I am looking for a Bowie style Lee Enfield no4 mk1 bayonet with scabbard.

I just installed a set of these Dawson sights on an M&P 9mm and I was very impressed with them. The fit, finish and attention to detail was outstanding. I installed a set of Fiber Optics and the ease of finding your front sight with the light transmission that these achieve was nothing less than great. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for precision in iron sights.

Every once in a while I do something that makes me wonder about myself.
The other day a gentleman brought in the slide off a S&W M&P 9mm for me to install a new set of sights on. As he was getting ready to leave I assured him that I would bore sight it and get the sights as close as possible without shooting it.
About ten minutes after he left I realized what I had said. I won’t repeat how many kinds of idiots I felt like.
When he picked the slide and new sights up the first thing I said to him was how dumb I was to have said that before he left the house. Before I could say why he said “ oh you mean that you were going to bore sight a slide when you didn’t have the barrel”.
We laughed about it a little bit and he left. Afterwards I wondered what he thought about leaving that job with me after saying something like that.
I suppose I’m a lot better gunsmith than I am a thinker🙄😳😂
