Last week’s Hardware Pitch Night at Studio 45 brought together founders, operators, and investors for one of our most engaged rooms yet. From robotics to embodied AI, the conversations went well beyond the pitch deck — into deployment strategy, technical risk, and what it really takes to get hardware into the world.

We shared a full recap — including the teams, judges, and themes that surfaced.

Warning lights. Thick cables. A very serious “do not cross” line in the back lot.

That’s Thunderstone.

They’re rethinking mining from first principles — not moving mountains of rock, but asking: what if you only had to move the atom?

We sat down with the founders to talk high-voltage experiments, scrappy prototyping, and building deep tech alongside the rest of the Studio community.

What does it actually take to build hardware when you’re a software-first founder?

We sat down with , co-founder & CEO of .pod , to talk candidly about building hardware in the real world — from installs and logistics to why customers make the best product managers.

With two Bubls deployed at Studio 45, we’ve had a front-row seat to how the product gets used day-to-day, and how that feedback shapes what comes next.

Joseph Guo builds the way great hardware founders do, by following the problem wherever it leads, even if that means almost crashing a bike, cold-showing up at Strava HQ, or sketching the first prototype in Microsoft Paint.

Minimis didn’t come from hype. It came from obsession, iteration, and the community that kept pushing the work forward.

The Bay Area loves to celebrate disruption, but Istvan Csapo’s path takes it to a whole new level.

A single auction moment (“I’ll just buy one mill”) became the spark that led him into hands-on manufacturing and co-owning an injection-molding shop.

Owen Murphy, Co-Founder and CEO of Lightmill, is reimagining what’s possible for hardware teams. With a background that spans to hands-on robotics tinkering in high school, Owen is now tackling one of the hardest problems in manufacturing: making high precision metal components faster, cheaper, and more accessible so hardware teams everywhere can move at the speed of their ideas. We sat down with Owen to talk about his path into engineering, the vision behind Lightmill, and how Studio 45 has supported his journey from big ideas to real world machines.
