Aquamarine and bloodstone, March’s birthstones, are very different in appearance, but they share a similar reputation for protecting one’s well-being. Bloodstone’s alternate name heliotrope comes from the ancient Greek word meaning “to turn the sun". Aquamarine’s name comes from the Latin for seawater, and ancient mariners claimed the gem would calm waves and keep sailors safe at sea.
