1999 Taylor 914C #990729135

The top end of Taylor's line at the time, this rosewood and spruce guitar features abalone around the top, rosette and fret board extension, as well as abalone floral motif up the fret board and on the head stock. The body is bound in rosewood as well with elegant wood purflings between the binding and the sides. The top shows exceptionally even grain spacing throughout the width of the top, and tight (24 lines/inch), well quarter sawn with great reflectivity. 1 3/4" nut width, 25 1/2" scale. The guitar is virtually mint, not a mark on it anywhere. There is the slightest hint of fret wear under the B string in the 1st position, that's the only sign that it was ever handled or played. Hard to believe, as it is a great playing and sounding guitar. Action currently set at 6/64" and 4/64" with plenty of saddle showing, very low and fast feel. Great for fingerstyle as set now, no buzz, works for flat picking but if you want to dig in on the trebles you might want to pop the action up a hair. The guitar is tonally excellent, very crisp, woody and balanced. Comes with the original hard case. $3000 + shipping, NY buyers add 8% sales tax. Sound file of this guitar available on request or on my website/gbase listing for this instrument.

2001 Collings 000-2H #6901

Collings' take on the 000-28S, this 12 fret rosewood 000 is a great interpretation of a golden age instrument. You likely know already about the rosewood and spruce, herringbone, ebony fret board and pyramid bridge, scalloped X bracing and about the 1 13/16" nut with the 2 5/16" pin spacing that are spec for this model. This example has a beautifully quartered top that shows medullary rays or "silking" in the grain throughout. With the exception of some superficial pick marks in the pickguard this guitar is near spotless, the finish is in excellent condition with no dings/dents/scratches and the guitar has never had any repairs nor does it need any now. There is a very minute amount of fret wear in the first position. The neck barrel has a soft vintage 'V' profile. The action is set at 7/64" and 5/64" with plenty of saddle showing to lower it should the new owner desire a lower set up. Sounds huge and balanced, and equally good whether finger picked or flat picked. Comes with the original hard shell case. $3200 + shipping, NY residents add 8% sales tax. Sound files available on request or on my website/gbase listing for the guitar.

1997 Goodall Rosewood Grand Concert (RGC) #1254

Plain and simple, this is a spectacular guitar. Indian rosewood, spruce top, mahogany neck, ebony board and bridge, bound in curly koa. More or less equivalent to an OM, with a 15" lower bout, 25 1/2" scale, 1 3/4" nut width and 2 1/4" pin spacing. The neck has a modern "C" profile that is neither clubby nor too slender, very comfortable. There are a few minor strum marks from a pick on the clear pickguard but otherwise this guitar is cosmetically mint, looks virtually untouched. Structurally 100%, no repairs ever and needs none now. There is a very slight degree of fret wear in the usual places in the first position but nothing that needs attention right away. Tonally the guitar is outstanding...very responsive to fingerstyle play and a light touch, but has lots of headroom for a flat pick attack. When played hard it is loud and unruly without losing its fundamental tonal definition and character. The action is set at 6/64" and 5/64" with just under 1/8" of saddle showing. Comes with the original hard shell case. $5000 + shipping, NY buyers add 8% sales tax. Sound file available by request or on my website/gbase listing for this guitar.

1996 Martin 000-28 EC #584156

1996 was the first year for the 000-28EC (the 000-42EC came one year earlier) and this example is #226 in the series. Indian rosewood and spruce, ebony board and bridge with scalloped X bracing, herringbone top trim and rosette and a nut width of 1 3/4" and pin spacing of 2 1/4". Scale length is 24.9". The guitar has been exceptionally well kept, I would rate its condition as excellent. There are some superficial pick marks on the pickguard (none on the finish) and there is a small spot of lift in the finish just at the forward edge of the bridge on the top, appears to be in the clear coat only as the color underneath is no disturbed, I've tried to show this in one of the final pics. No cracks, dings, dents, or repairs. The frets are in great shape. The action is set at 6/64" and 5/64" at the 12th fret with just a hair under 1/8" of saddle showing. The neck is straight under tension and the top flat. The neck barrel has a soft vintage 'V' profile, quite comfortable. Great sounding and playing guitar that comes with the original hard case. $3200 + shipping, NY buyers add 8% sales tax. Sound files available on my website listing for this guitar.

"I'm always chasing rainbows..."
A few from this past few week's fishing. Kind of tough to get a good pic when you are also trying to control the fish while not injuring it because you want to return it to the creek undamaged, but you get the idea.

Just finished up my first neck reset on a Larson Bros./WJ Dyer Symphony harp guitar (style 7). I've had other harp guitars in the shop through the years but this is the first that I had to pull and reset the neck. It was a challenge, because the opposing sides of the heel rather than existing in the same plane and are parallel (as is the case with a regular guitar of almost any make) are neither parallel nor in the same plane. The neck joins the body at the 13th fret on the treble side of the fret board while on the bass side it joins the body just forward of the 12th fret. This asymmetry is due to the curvature of the upper part of the body. While neck resetting becomes somewhat second nature/routine after having done a countless number of them this one was definitely not routine. But all went well, and the guitar plays great and sounds fantastic. I've got another waiting in the wings (a style 4) that also needs a reset that will come to the bench very soon.
