A lot of people don't know the history of the special relationship h**p has in Kentucky and why **pcrete is a very appropriate building material for this state!

Kentucky has a long-standing history with h**p cultivation. A couple years ago, I stumbled upon a Wikipedia page dedicated to this very topic

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H**p_in_Kentucky

In the 1800s and early 1900s, Kentucky was the #1 producer of industrial h**p.

It apparently grows really well in our soils and climate! We should bring it back

**phistory

Kentucky was the greatest producer of h**p in the United States during the 19th and 20th centuries, when it was the source of three fourths of U.S. h**p fiber. Production started to decline after World War I due to the rise of to***co as the cash crop in Kentucky and the foreign competition of h**p....

Might sound silly, but this is how my 🧠 is sometimes

It's all too common to get what's called a "barked edge" on a 2x4. This is the only one I've seen in the whole wall assembly, so Homeland H**pcrete did a great job at selecting quality lumber!

And I was impressed at how the formed h**pcrete was perfectly contoured to the barked edge 😎

That doesn't happen with insulation batts.

I know, I know, it's such an insignificant detail, but I just thought it was cool! No gap left unfilled!

We got it done, folks!

In 1 weekend, we put up these wall panels with the dream team of 7 people - the number of perfection

Message me if you want to see it this month before plastering!

Homeland H**pcrete did an amazing job and they were a pleasure to work with!

Walls are going up soon!

Unless we get rained out, we are set to have a h**pcrete raising party not this weekend - but next weekend! The weekend of summer solstice

We also need volunteers for this process, so if you are interested, please message me.

For those of you who may not be familiar with h**pcrete, what is it and why build with it?

H**pcrete is an insulating biocomposite made of a dried mix of h**p fiber, lime binder, and water.

It is traditionally mixed on site and cast in forms where it encases the house framing. But there are block/masonry applications as well as prefabricated wall panels and even spray-on applications!

H**pcrete is:
- termite resistant
- fire resistant
- mold resistant
- carbon negative
- breathable and able to dry if (when) water ever gets in
- air-purifying
- highly insulating for natural materials (compared to timbers, stone, and other masonry)
- humidity regulating

It adds body and shear strength to a building when put between framing

It can also receive plaster directly Just like traditional masonry, so for most builds the cladding of choice is lime plaster. No drywall. No v***r barrier. Or House wrap. Just h**pcrete and plaster on both sides

For this post I wanted to highlight one of the first H**pcrete homes in America so people can see what a h**pcrete home can look like:

We are building Southern Kentucky's first H**pcrete house. It's also the first in the greater Nashville area.

This page is going to promote h**pcrete, natural building, and share progress with the online community
