Hello Sussex Community & Supporters,

it’s Stephanie LeDonne here, Anthony & Joanie’s daughter. I’m here to share with you all the news that my family is closing the doors of Sussex Ace Hardware.

It’s not easy for my family to talk about, as you can imagine. This store had been in my family for 33 years, and it was not an easy decision to close our doors, but it was our very best option as a family.

We want to thank you for all of your support over the last 33 years, because of you all my parents have supported me and my 4 brothers and the community of Sussex (which my dad, Anthony Sr., will continue to serve as a Lion and SAS club member and the village president).

Many of you all may be grieving Sussex Ace, just as we are, so I thought it was only proper for me to honor it in a poem and share what growing up in Sussex Ace Hardware meant to me:

I’m the daughter of a hardware store family

And I’m grateful

Because growing up in a hardware store taught me a lot

Like hard work

Commitment

Empathy and Kindness

Community

Service

That I could learn things that didn’t come naturally to me

What it means to be an entrepreneur (I’m a 3rd generation one)

And it’s not easy to know

That we’re closing the doors of the store I grew up in

But the truth is even though that store will no longer be ours

It will still live on

Because every lesson I learned in that store?

I’m taking it with me.

Those are lessons I’ll never lose.

They’ll always be with me.

I’m the daughter of a hardware store family.

With a dad who is a helpful hardware man

And without that store

I never would have became who I am.
