Slow but sure! We were able to spend nearly the entire week working on the store! We put in copious amounts of insulation, a v***r barrier and the tin ceiling. Plus spent Wednesday continuing putting in the FRG wall covering for the honey processing area.
Getting back on track for spring Grand Opening!!!! WHOO HOO!

Good morning everyone, last year I had several folks miss out on getting bee equipment for Christmas presents. If you're local to the NNK, Middle Peninsula or Richmond and want to give the gift of bees or equipment to someone for Christmas, now is the time for ordering! We'll be up late in the shop for the next few weeks building hives and frames but we need to get our supplies in to fill your order. If you're interested, please stop by our website and contact us soon. For just ordering bees the deadline will be Dec 20th. For hardware and equipment for pick up by Christmas it is Dec 10th.

After a tough start (over) this year and a very wet spring we were very pleased to get a small harvest of excellent quality honey! Not enough to sell, but certainly enough for family!

Welcome to three new employees! These will be the first Carniolan Queens put up in the apiary. We're very excited to see how well they do. We've had mixed results from the Italians over the years. So it's time to try something new.

It's well into the time of year for mites. Soon the queen will begin to slow down a bit in her brood rearing. Unfortunately the mites won't. This can cause a serious problem in the hive while trying to build winter brood. If you haven't done a mite check, do it now! A good organic treatment for mites is OAV, oxalic acid v***rization. This is done every week for 3 or four weeks to kill all the adult mites living in the colony. OAV does not pe*****te cappings so you must cover a complete brood cycle including drones. We recommend 4 doses 7 days apart. Pictured below is the items you'll need. 1) good quality oxalic acid 2) a v***rizer. 3) a respirator certified for organic acids. Depending on the v***rizer it takes from one to five minutes to treat a hive.
