🏛️ RESTORATION BEGINS. HISTORY CONTINUES.
After years of planning, grant applications, and dedication, we are thrilled to announce that restoration work on the historic Andrew Carnegie Library Building's front windows is scheduled to begin October 20, 2026!
Built in 1904 and now home to the Terrell Heritage Museum, this beloved landmark has stood at the heart of our community for more than 120 years. And now, we're taking another important step toward ensuring it stands for generations to come.
This milestone is part of our ongoing Restore the Legacy: The Carnegie Library Building Project, and it would not be possible without some incredible partnerships.
✨ Texas Historical Commission — Through its Texas Preservation Trust Fund grant program, the THC is providing funding made possible by countless hours of grant research, preparation, and documentation.
✨ Parks and Downtown Improvement Corporation (PADIC) — Providing the matching funds needed to make this restoration possible.
✨ City of Terrell — For its continued partnership, assistance with grant applications, and support of historic preservation in our community.
✨ Mark A. Thacker, AIA — For his architectural expertise and historic preservation guidance throughout this process.
✨ Phoenix I Restoration and Construction, Ltd. — The historic restoration specialists who will be bringing new life to the building's front windows.
This is more than a construction project. It represents years of hard work, a shared commitment to preservation, and a community coming together to protect a piece of its history.
And this is just the beginning!
While we celebrate this exciting milestone, additional restoration work remains ahead. Every contribution to Restore the Legacy helps us continue preserving this remarkable building and the stories it holds.
