This is why I like short-term goals...

Creating and accomplishing short-term goals is a great way to work towards long-term career/life goals. It breaks your larger goals up into smaller, easy-to-follow steps. Accomplishing these smaller goals motivates you and keeps you focused on your next target. Having short-term goals also allows you to monitor your progress easily and course correct when necessary. If you decide halfway through a short-term goal that it’s not what you want to pursue, you can switch paths with minimal time lost.

Spring Clean Your Mind!

Spring is a great time to take a personal inventory. Use these questions to help you fine-tune your goals and priorities.

· How do you want to be remembered?

· How do you want people to describe you?

· Who do you want to be?

· Who or what matters most to you?

· What are your deepest values?

· How do you define success in your life?

· What makes life worth living?

Asking these questions can help you recalibrate and find a new “North Star” to help guide decisions and assess if you’re staying on track this year!

Teach or Torment?

As leaders, it's important to ask ourselves if we are teachers or tormentors. The best leaders empower their team and use every opportunity to make them stronger. The job of a teacher leader is to empower and get out of the way. In sports, the coach doesn't suit up and get in the game. The coach sets the direction and the players carry out the vision because they are empowered and trusted to do so.

The tormentor, on the other hand, tears people down and works to disempower the team. This behavior hurts morale, makes the team less effective, and ultimately drives unwanted attrition, which weakens the bottom line of the organization.

These leaders from Ace Hardware are committed to be TEACHERS!

Tip: As a leader, check your motives daily. Consider if you really want your team to succeed and enjoy their success as much, if not more, than your own.

If you want to communicate better as a seller or leader try this!

When you communicate with others ask, “What do I want people to know?” and “What do I want them to do?”

The goal is for the listener to understand and be able to apply the what you are sharing.

Apply the K.I.S.S. principle: Keep It Super Simple!

Move Forward Friday!

Whether you are in sales, leadership or just living life we all face fear.

Here are some steps to shed light on what we (F.E.A.R.)

F- Find a Different Perspective.

We often admit defeat simply because we failed to achieve the results we had intended. Those results may not be failures at all.

E- Engage Your Problem-Solving Skills

Look for clues. Those who cannot overcome their fear or failure are often those who walk away from a failed attempt without making any effort to discover why they failed and how they can avoid the mistake next time.

A- Ask For Help

Somewhere in your network there is someone who can help or knows someone who can help! Speak up if you don’t throw out your net you won’t catch any fish.

R- Resist the Temptation to Give Up

Persistence is really the only difference between those who finally reach their goal and those who just talk about it.

Don’t fear a temporary setback. It fades as soon as you attempt success again. Fear instead, a life spent thinking… What lf? Remember, you can’t conquer what you don’t confront and you can’t confront what you don’t first identify.

Happy Teachable Tuesday!

Are you teachable? Are you open and receptive about learning from others?

John Maxwell taught me a valuable lesson about collaboration. He said, "Collaboration makes all the difference. People who participate in shared thinking and collaboration come up with better thoughts and ideas together than those who only rely on their own thinking. That is the power of shared and sustained thinking."

Teachable Tip:
Stay open and receptive today about collaborating with others - it may lead to the shift you need to go to the next level. :)

Thankful Thursday!
Do you know what I am most thankful for? The power to choose how I respond to both failure and success. Here's what I shared with this group of business owners...

* If you fail give yourself 24 hours to feel sorry for yourself – then get moving again.

* If you succeed give yourself 24 hours to celebrate – then get moving again.

If you argue for your limitations, they will become yours. Do not accept the agenda someone else has mapped out for your life. Blaze the trail of your own destiny!

Teamwork Wednesday!

The Avengers, featuring Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk, and Thor is not just inspiring for comics fans - there’s a huge lesson about teamwork you might not have paid attention to. Not just teamwork – but the value of teams themselves.

The Avengers’ lesson is that ONE is better than one, meaning that ONE team is better than one person. The hard part is making those individuals put their egos aside, trust each other and act as a team.

Captain America and Iron Man have a different view of the world and compromise doesn’t come easy. But they respect and trust one another despite their disagreements and they can see the value the other brings to the table.

Ditching the ego is what allows you to become part of a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. When you are part of a team, a truly COHESIVE unit that functions with a single purpose, you can accomplish wonders!

Truth Bomb Tuesday!

"More than cleverness, we need kindness and gentleness."

- Charlie Chaplin

When Charlie Chaplin wrote the script for his 1940 film “The Great Dictator,” he was making a bold choice. At a time when Adolf Hi**er was in full power, the beloved filmmaker and comedian used satire to stand up for humanity and freedom. Chaplin included this line in the famous speech given at the end of the film. It’s an appeal to prize unity over hate in order to overthrow oppressors and live freely.

The sentiment remains significant today: In a world that prizes power and success it reminds us to value peace, kindness, and empathy.

Fail Forward Friday
What do you do when you fall off the productivity wagon? Here are 3 tips to get back on (and feel great about it)...

1. Forgive Yourself
It might sound a little silly, but you do have to really, deeply forgive yourself. You wouldn’t be perpetually angry at or disappointed in someone else who had a temporary setback, would you? Of course not. So, stop being so dang hard on yourself.

2. Recommit
Once you have forgiven yourself and stopped dwelling on the past, you can recommit to the future. Remind yourself what the goal, task or dream is and why it is important to achieve it. Don’t stop at the surface- visualize how you will feel when you achieve the goal! What does it look like, feel like and how will your life change? Write down your answers.

3. Win The Day
Achieving goals doesn’t happen overnight. It is the result of steady progress each day. Focus your energy on winning the day. Just today. Because when you win the days, you win the weeks, months and years. And when you win the years, you win in life and become an example to others.

Your future self will thank you. 😊

Winning Attitude Wednesday!

Stop fearing failure. It serves a purpose for you and can help you reach your success. You might have heard how tough times build character and make success even sweeter. If that is true, then you must redefine what failure means to you. Failure, defined the traditional way, can lead you to give up, get stuck or not try all together.

What if instead, you define failure as a chance to learn, grow and move forward with more information to make better decisions?

Before Edison discovered how to create the light bulb, he failed 2,000 times. He did not know there were 2,000 ways not to make a working lightbulb. By going through all those failed iterations, he learned step by step what didn't work - so he could learn what did work.

Day to day life is based on relativity- you can't experience something without understanding what the lack of it feels like. If you do not experience failure, how can you know what it is to be successful and truly appreciate that success? Consider changing your attitude towards failure and “light up” with a new enthusiasm for success!
