Another staff favorite: one of our saw frames (with tension nut). The one you see here is 3" and has a herkules jeweler saw blade in it.

Jeweler saws are one of the fundamental jewelers tools. They're used in jewelry making to cut simple and complex shapes in metal, wax, and more. They enable jewelers to create detailed work without distorting the metal, making them essential tools in the craft.

These are the same high-quality frames as our Deluxe Sawframes, but with the added feature of a tension screw to adjust the blade to the exact tension desired. These high-quality, well-balanced frames are strongly constructed with hardwood handles. Blades are firmly held by serrated lugs, and adjustable frames to accommodate broken blades.

The birthstone for October is opal 💍💎

Did you know? 💡 Many cultures have credited opal with supernatural origins and powers. Arabic legends say it falls from the heavens in flashes of lightning. The ancient Greeks believed opals gave their owners the gift of prophecy and guarded them from disease. 

We have some really stunning examples in the shop at the moment, including jewelry, rough specimens, and pieces that are polished and ready for your next jewelry project!

Meet the dapping block 💎⛏️

These handy tools have depressions that are used to shape flat sheet metal into curved, domed, or spherical shapes.

We had some visitors in the shop this week! A group of students from Desert Dragon Learning Community stopped by to watch a demo on how hand tools can be used to add shape and texture to metal for jewelry design.

Desert Dragon Learning Community is a small, personalized learning space in Tucson, AZ where neurodivergent students grades K-8 with learning differences can thrive. Check out their Instagram profile to learn more ➡️ 🐉🌵

This Miter-Cutting Vise is a staff favorite here at the shop! ⛏️💎

These tools allow you to cut and file tubing, wire, and sheet edges at exact angles.

They can be used to make clean ends on wire or ring shanks for seamless soldering, for cutting small tubing cleanly without crushing the soft metal, and for trimming small angled metal or wood joints to fit together tightly.

What do we love about them?

Happy birthday to all you September babies! Did you know that lapis lazuli is an alternative birthstone for September?

It gets its deep blue color from lazurite, white streaks from calcite, and glittery gold flecks from pyrite.

We currently have lapis that is unpolished and a few pieces that are ready to add right into your next jewelry project (maybe something special for the Virgo or Libra in your life) 💙💎
