A beautiful island. A seam straight through the veining.
This is how expensive regret starts — and it’s decided before the cut, at template approval.

Ask your fabricator these 5 before you sign:

1. Where exactly are the seams going? Have them marked on the template before cutting.
2. How does the veining run across the seam? Ask for a dry layout — a sudden change in direction looks like a mistake, not a design choice.
3. Can I see the edge profile on my actual stone, not in a catalog?
4. Are the sink cutout dimensions confirmed with my plumber, in writing, for the exact sink model?
5. What’s the island overhang, and is it supported? Anything beyond 8 inches on natural stone needs support brackets.

Save this for your template appointment. Share it with anyone starting a kitchen.

Comment CUT44 and I’ll send you the pre-cut checklist.

Taj Mahal gets all the attention.
Perla Santana Quartzite is the one that stops you when you're standing in front of it.
Same Brazilian origin. But the veining here runs silver — not gold. Cooler and warmer . Quieter. And honestly more versatile across kitchens, bathrooms, and feature walls.
We have full slabs in Irving right now. This is one of those materials you cannot evaluate on a screen. You have to be in the room with it.

Stop choosing your backsplash after the countertop is installed. Start here instead.
The rooms that photograph best — and feel best to live in — are the ones where the materials were chosen together.
Quartzite and Zellige tile are the combination designers keep coming back to in 2026.
Not because it's trendy. Because it's balanced.

The quartzite brings calm, natural movement.
The Zellige brings handcrafted texture and warmth.
Neither one competes with the other. They just make each other better.

Swipe through for four ways to use this pairing — from soft and neutral to warm and dramatic.
Which one matches your project? Drop a number in the comments.

Designers — your clients are about to start asking for these.

2026 is the year texture wins. The days of glossy-everything kitchens are fading. What's replacing them? Finishes you can actually feel.

Here are the 3 we're seeing designers spec the most right now:

→ Leathered — soft to the touch, hides fingerprints, makes every stone feel warmer
→ Honed — clean matte look, no glare, perfect for modern and transitional spaces
→ Brushed — subtle grain, natural feel, rising fast in high-end custom homes

And the one that's losing ground? High-gloss polish. It's not dead — but the trend is clearly moving toward surfaces with depth and character.

We carry all 4 finishes across 300+ stone colors at our Irving showroom. If you're a designer or builder, DM us "FINISH" and we'll send you trade pricing.

If you're remodeling or building in Frisco — listen up.
The most expensive slab regret I see isn't the stone. It's the cut nobody approved.
Ask before they cut. Always.

Comment CUT44 and I'll DM you the checklist — 6 questions before your fabricator cuts.

07/10/2026

Most countertop mistakes are decided before a single cut is made.
Template approval is the point of no return. Once that slab is cut — seam placement, edge profile, sink cutout — it is done. Most homeowners sign off in five minutes without a single question.
Here are the five you need to ask.
1️⃣ Where exactly are the seams going?
Ask the fabricator to mark seam locations on the template before cutting. A seam in the wrong place catches the eye every single day for the life of that kitchen.
2️⃣ Can you show me the edge profile on the actual stone?
Not in a catalog. On a remnant of your slab. Edge profiles look completely different on real stone than on paper — this is not a decision to make from an illustration.
3️⃣ Are the sink cutout dimensions confirmed with my plumber?
Get it in writing. The exact sink model. Half an inch off and the sink won't seat correctly. Expensive fix after the stone is installed.
4️⃣ How is the veining oriented across the seam?
For any stone with strong veining, ask for a dry layout before installation. A seam where veining direction changes abruptly looks like a mistake, not a design decision.
5️⃣ What is the island overhang and is it supported?
Anything beyond 8 inches on natural stone needs support brackets. Many fabricators don't bring this up unless you ask.
Save this. Share it with anyone starting a kitchen renovation.
Before your fabricator shows up — come see the slabs at Burlington Design Gallery. When you know your stone, every one of these conversations gets easier.

This is what happens when the slab comes first.
Every detail in this kitchen started with one decision — choosing the right stone.
From there, the cabinet color, the hardware, the backsplash — everything followed. That's how designers work.
The slab isn't an afterthought. It's the anchor.
The quartzite here does what great stone always does. It gives the room its soul without demanding all the attention.
If you have a project starting this spring or summer, now is the time to come select your slab.
The best pieces move fast, and holding a one-of-a-kind stone for your client is exactly what our trade program is built for.

If you are remodeling or building in grapevine, Irving , Frisco, Plano, or Southlake, you need to read this.

The countertop question that saves you from a $10k mistake…

…and almost nobody asks it.

It’s this:

“Can we approve the full slab layout before you cut?”

Not the color.
Not the price per square foot.
The layout.

Because once the stone is cut, you’re stuck with:
• where the veins land
• which part of the slab ends up on the island
• where the seams sit
• how the sink and cooktop cutouts break the movement
• whether the overhang and edges even work

Most people fall in love with a sample, say yes fast, and never see the dry layout.

Ask for the layout first.
Approve it in writing.
Then let them cut.

That one question is cheaper than living with the wrong kitchen for 10 years.

Comment CUT44 and I’ll send you the list to ask before anyone cuts your slab.

I talked a Dallas customer OUT of buying marble yesterday 🚫 Not because I don’t sell it — because it was wrong for her kitchen. Marble is beautiful, but it’s needy. Comment KITCHEN44 and I’ll DM you my honest breakdown — which stones are worry-free and which ones demand love. 👇

Dallas — your slab is picked, it’s paid for, it leaves our showroom… and now the scary part starts.

Because your slab goes to your fabricator, and there are four decisions nobody walks you through: the templating, the edge profile, exactly where your seams land, and the sink cutout.

Your fabricator assumes you know. You assume they’ll handle it. And once they cut — there’s no undo button.

I made you a checklist: six questions to ask before anyone cuts.

If you are working on a backyard project in frisco, you need to read this ;

Most outdoor stone regret isn’t the color.
It’s picking limestone, travertine, or marble without knowing how each one actually performs outside.

Limestone — soft whites, creams, light greys. Cool underfoot, dense and durable. Best for pool decks and patios in hot climates where surface temperature matters most.

Travertine — warm beiges, ivories, soft golds. Naturally textured, slip-resistant when honed or tumbled. Best for pool surrounds and outdoor living that need grip and warmth.

Marble pavers — whites, greys, natural veining. Elevated look for entryways and lower-traffic areas. High traffic needs a textured finish like sandblasted to stay slip-resistant.

Which one fits the space you’re working on?

Comment PAVER44 and I’ll send you which of the three fits your outdoor space — before you buy the wrong one.

TAJ MAHAL OR PERLA VENATA?
Taj Mahal leans warm — creamy golds and soft movement that pair beautifully with warm white or cream cabinetry.

Perla Venata is cooler and more neutral — lighter, brighter, and better suited to a cleaner white or soft gray palette.

The difference isn’t just the slab. It’s the undertone — and that’s the thing a photo will never show you accurately.

The truth about matching your backsplash to your countertop…

They don’t have to match.

In fact, when everything is too similar, your kitchen can end up looking flat and predictable.

The better approach is to coordinate them.

If your countertop has strong movement, let the backsplash be quieter.

If your countertop is simple, you have more freedom to bring in texture, pattern, or color with the backsplash.

The goal isn’t matching.

It’s creating a kitchen where the countertop and backsplash work together without competing.

Homeowners see a beautiful slab. Designers see 5 potential problems.

A gorgeous slab can still create problems if you don’t look beyond the surface.

Designers are checking:

1. The movement — Will it compete with the cabinets or backsplash?
2. The layout — Will the veining land where you want it?
3. The slab size — Will you need multiple slabs or seams?
4. The finish — Is it practical for how the kitchen will be used?
5. The overall design — Will you still love it once everything is installed?

That’s why choosing a countertop isn’t just about finding the prettiest stone.

It’s about making sure the stone works for your entire kitchen.

The most expensive countertop mistake isn’t choosing the wrong stone…

It’s choosing the stone before you’ve figured out how everything else will work with it.

Your countertop affects more than just the island.

It can change how your cabinets look, how your backsplash works, how much material you need, and even how balanced the entire kitchen feels.

A slab can be beautiful on its own and still be completely wrong for your space.

Choose the stone as part of the design—not as a separate decision.

Most homeowners choose their countertop backwards.

They fall in love with the slab first… then try to make everything else work around it.

But the better approach? Start with the whole kitchen.

Think about your cabinet color, backsplash, flooring, lighting, layout, and how much movement you want in the space BEFORE committing to the slab.

A beautiful stone can still be the wrong choice for your kitchen.

The goal isn’t just to find a gorgeous slab.
It’s to find the slab that makes everything work together.
