The finished product. All in all, this work took me just over 2 weeks to complete (between night shift, executive dysfunction, etc).

Part 6: Et Fini

(Sorry for the shaky camera work)

She's finished! I added the rhinestones little by little... putting in various sizes here and there to give her a little Oomph.

I'll post a still photo for those who are seasick now.

Part 5: Staining and cleanup of the gold leafing.

Now you can start to see the vision emerging. She's warm, she's poised, and she radiates divinity. The gold leafing now has a sharp edge since filing in all the details with a darker paint color. I worried she may look a bit cartoon-ish, but I wasn't totally dissatisfied.

Part 4: Painting finished, gold leafing begins.

At this point, I was feeling optimistic. She was really starting to radiate this regal aura that I wanted to capture. The gold leafing was a new skill for me, so despite it looking somewhat messy at first, I was really proud of the outcome.

I promise, I cleaned it up- stay tuned for the detailing.

Part 3: Base layer of paint.

This stage helps me create a vision of the base color palate. From there I work with color mixing, shading, highlighting, depth, and of course, the proper skin tones.

The "trust the process" mantra was going strong in this stage.

The Queen emerges- bit by bit. This stage of the project, I was feeling hopeful. The details were shining through the wood and it seemed like it might turn out looking decent.

But, I still had such a long way to go. The hand cramps were real.

When I start a big project like this one (16x20 pine composite), I'm never sure where it will take me. So many times I've told myself to trust the process, but, then I realize I AM the process and it gets harder to believe.
