In this West Texas rock, as you get a few feet below surface level, the caliche is hard, not easily diggable by most buckets:

Hammers simply slam against it (poking holes) not really getting anywhere.

Next to large-scale trenchers- Cutters are clearly a faster choice.

Same excavator. Same rock. Big difference in production.

This project was running roughly 2-3 cubic yards per hour with a hydraulic hammer.

The Antraquip drum cutter hit 14 cubic yards per hour.

I spy with my little eye…a badass Antraquip Corporation AQ/5 on the strip.

When it comes to production with cutting trench the Antraquip rock cutter is 5-10X faster than running a hammer.

-cuts rock down to backfill material
-no needed to over excavate the trench
-hammers slow and only poking holes in this caliche rock
