$159 a year. That's what it cost Mangino Chevrolet of Amsterdam, NY to keep each Mohawk lift running — per lift, per year.
Industry practice suggests replacing a vehicle lift every 10 to 15 years. Five of Mangino Chevrolet's Mohawk lifts have been in continuous service for three decades or more — two of them for approximately forty.
We reviewed ten years of the dealership's actual repair records — every invoice and inspection, January 2015 through December 2025 — and analyzed a 12-lift fleet with a combined service age of 267 years.
Total repair spend: $19,032. That's $1,903 annually for the entire fleet. $159 per lift, per year.
Not because nothing required attention. Rollers, valves, cables and pads were all replaced along the way. The distinction is that these lifts were engineered to be repaired rather than replaced, and decades-old equipment continued to generate revenue in a high-volume dealership service department.
Two of the fleet's 9,000-lb lifts completed roughly forty years of service before being retired in 2025.
