The Heavy Double The Heavy Double (AKA "Top Shelf") is a rowing shell located at The Albany Rowing Center on rollers outside under I-787. It's a Vespoli, circa 1995.

A place where people can share their memories of The Heavy Double, a double that has been with Albany Rowing Center for as long as anyone remembers. Yes, he's a little heavier than the other doubles, but he rows straight and sets well. For some reason, this boat identifies as male. Heavy D is a 1994 Vespoli. We're not sure if he was purchased new, used, donated, or, really, how Albany Rowing Center came to possess him. And yes, he's probably 5 lbs heavier than a modern carbon fiber boat, but you'll be happy about that if it's windy.

I understand I'm being replaced at Albany Rowing Center by the Heavy Trouble. Hope they take good care of you, Miss Trouble. I heartily enjoyed my years sitting alongside The Hudson River.
