Amazing Job!
“On the night of October 9, shortly after Hurricane Isaias made landfall in Escambia County, Florida, emergency units were dispatched to a report of a large tree that had fallen onto a male patient. Upon arrival, first-due units confirmed that a substantial oak tree had been uprooted by the storm and had pinned the patient to the ground. Due to the complexity of the incident and the challenges associated with safely removing the tree, additional resources were requested, prompting a response from Escambia County Fire Rescue’s Special Operations Team, TRT-104.
Upon arrival, responding personnel immediately began clearing debris to establish access to the patient and facilitate medical assessment and treatment. The patient remained conscious and responsive but was experiencing severe pain and discomfort. EMS personnel initiated treatment for suspected crush syndrome and provided extensive medical care while rescue operations were planned and coordinated.Following the rescue, the patient maintained stable vital signs, with expectations of making a full recovery. Without the coordinated efforts of everyone on scene and the integration of Paratech’s rescue equipment, this incident could have very easily had a different outcome.”

Amazing Job!

"On the night of October 9, shortly after Hurricane Isaias made landfall in Escambia County, Florida, emergency units were dispatched to a report of a large tree that had fallen onto a male patient.

EMS personnel initiated treatment for suspected crush syndrome and provided extensive medical care while rescue operations were planned and coordinated.

Once the patient’s condition had been stabilized and appropriate medical interventions were underway, members of TRT-104 began developing and implementing a plan to safely lift the tree and release the patient. The team established a controlled lifting system using a chain cradle positioned beneath the tree, secured by a Paratech 406 Gold Series strut on each side to capture and support the load throughout the operation. After the chain and struts were loaded, personnel constructed a 6x6 cribbing base beneath the tree and positioned a 48-inch Paratech D/K air cushion to provide the necessary lifting force.

As the air cushion was inflated and the tree began to rise, TRT-104 members systematically advanced the collars on the 406 struts to progressively capture and secure the load, maintaining support throughout the lift. This coordinated process allowed rescuers to create sufficient clearance to safely remove the patient from beneath the tree with no additional or unplanned load shifts.

Through the combined efforts of ECFR TRT-104, on-scene fire personnel, and EMS providers, the patient was successfully extricated and transferred for continued medical care. Throughout the incident, personnel worked in a coordinated manner, integrating technical rescue operations with ongoing patient care to accomplish a complex extrication under challenging post-hurricane conditions. Following the rescue, the patient maintained stable vital signs, with expectations of making a full recovery. Without the coordinated efforts of everyone on scene and the integration of Paratech’s rescue equipment, this incident could have very easily had a different outcome."

Great Job!
“Our department, Heavy Rescue, responded to Hanover for a mutual-aid incident involving a cement truck mixer that had flipped, and the driver was pinned. Upon arrival, we stabilized the vehicle with Hydrofusions and an airbag system. Once stabilized, we cut open the cab and worked diligently to extricate the patient. After extrication, we loaded the patient on Flight for Life and airlifted him to the closest Level 1 hospital, where he made a full recovery after emergency surgery.”
