Sievers Model Railroad Benchwork

Building one of our Sievers Benchwork drawers, which is now on the shop page of our website. You can find it listed with the Angles. We first built these in December of 2023 as a request from a customer. The drawers fit in between the middle cross braces of our sections. Drawer width is 9", length is 19" and the clearance height is 2 3/4". The mounting cleats can be installed before or after you have put a top on your benchwork.

Each order of Sievers Benchwork makes a trip across Porte Des Morts Passage (Door of Death or Death's Door). This is the strait linking Lake Michigan and Green Bay between the northern tip of Door County and Washington Island. Named by the Native Americans in the 17th century for its hidden shoals. unpredictable winds and converging currents that have sunk numerous sailing vessels, wooden boats and canoes. Some customers ask about the island and have even watched the ferry crossing on the wisferry.com/webcams. Our boxes of benchwork that we ship in 3 to 5 days from when we receive the order are placed in a box truck, taken over on one of the 5 ferries to the mainland and picked up by UPS or USMail. First signs of Spring at the Sievers benchwork shop on Washington Island was Blizzard Elsa. She dumped over 30 inches of snow. The clean up took days. Let the melting begin. ❄️

We added a NEW SECTION length to our stock sizes. The 42" length sections are available in widths 12", 16", 18", 20", 24", 30", 36".

This custom benchwork was one of our more interesting projects for 2025. A break from the rectangles and squares.

Stage 1 of this Sievers Benchwork layout is assembled. Many years of anticipation and planning went into this customer's design before he had the opportunity to begin his model railroad empire. The front lower level is dropped 4". It is supported by a modified riser that attaches to the back benchwork sections and a single leg in the front. We are happy to make this project a reality.

A look back at 2025.

Outside the Sievers Benchwork shop it looks like the frozen tundra. Inside it is warm, with the sounds of sawing, drilling and sanding. A new batch of cross braces for our 12" wide sections is ready to stack on the shelf. Orders are usually shipped out in 3 days.
