At Stainless Cable & Railing we work hard to make sure our railing systems meet International building code. In order to meet the required 4-inch deflection, which is how far two parallel cables can be spread apart, our aluminum posts come standard pre-drilled at 3 inch spacing on the center. After proper tensioning, along with a maximum spacing between posts of 5 feet, your cable railing will meet cable deflection. Building code typically requires either a railing height of 36 inches (common for homes) or a 42-inch height (usually required for commercial applications). Sometimes there is no need to completely remove your old rail when cable railing can simply spruce up what you already have. For those who wish to retain part of an existing railing system, cable railing is versatile enough to be integrated into your present wood, stone, or metal system.
