Noel St. Germain started with Coventry Lumber in 2014. Tomorrow (October 29th) marks 8 years with the company.

Noel originally started his career working at Erikson’s Appliance, in West Warwick, when his father Lee took it over in 1994. Noel worked with his father for a couple of years before then working for a contractor, as Noel was trained in carpentry, and then working at Coutu Lumber in West Warwick. Noel then went back to work with his father at Lee’s Appliance in 2001 and purchased it from his dad in 2004. Noel then owned and operated Lee’s Appliance until 2014.

In 2014, Noel was at the point where he was going to close the family business when Mike Durand, a lifelong friend and customer of Noel’s and founder of Coventry Lumber, approached Noel to move his appliance business over to Coventry Lumber instead of closing so to add on to what Coventry Lumber offered it’s customers…and the rest is history!

In 2014, Noel brought, what was Lee’s Appliance at the time, over to Coventry Lumber and now represents the Appliance Center at Finetco.

Noel started at Coventry Lumber as Appliance Manager and also worked the front counter there. Since starting at Coventry Lumber, Noel has filled many positions at the company and has since moved into a role with the corporate office of Finetco. He has done document management and now works with accounts payables and accounts receivables as well as working on some appliance and lumber sales. Noel’s customers from back in his days at Lee’s Appliance still call him directly to buy appliances and Noel is always is willing to help!

When asked what has kept Noel within the Finetco family all of these years, Noel said, “It’s the people I work for. I find all of the Finnegan family to be very nice and helpful.”. Noel went on to say that he likes the company and overall the owners are great people to work for.

Noel also said that making the move from owning Lee’s Appliance to bringing that business over to Finetco was overall a great decision. Noel said it allowed him to spend less hours at work and more time with his family.

John Dargon started with West Haven Lumber LLC in 2018. Tomorrow (October 29th) marks 4 years with the company as a Millwork Specialist.

John has over 40 years experience in the kitchen business including 5 years of kitchen design.

John was referred to West Haven Lumber by a friend and West Haven Lumber employee who told him that West Haven Lumber needed someone in their millwork department. John applied, was hired and he has been there ever since!

When asked what has kept John within the Finetco family all of these years, John said, “They trust me to do my work and they gave me the opportunity to work with my hands again.”. John explained that he basically works on his own and loves that about the job. John went on to say that West Haven Lumber gives him the work to do and he manages the millwork with front counter and sales and just gets the job done. John explained that he assembles all the window and door frames along with entire houses and condo projects for West Haven Lumber. John really loves what he does and loves working with West Haven Lumber!

Michael Chlebek started with Coventry Lumber in 2018. Today marks 4 years with the company.

Michael was looking for work, when a friend that worked at Coventry Lumber told him they were hiring. So, Michael applied.

Michael started at Coventry Lumber as a striker and warehouse worker. Today, Michael works the warehouse and is a driver. Michael is one of the people at Finetco that makes sure your order and products get delivered.

When asked what has kept Michael within the Finetco family at Coventry Lumber all of these years, Michael said, “I like the flexibility. Overall, it's a chilled environment.”. Michael went on to say that everyone at Finetco is pretty chill and easy to talk to and that his team is good to work with. He did say that it can get hectic, but overall it is relaxed.

HISTORY OF PIE FOR LIFE:

Pie For Life came to be one year, when a customer shared with owner Bill Finnegan a referral for a friend who wanted to build a new kitchen. Over pie at Thanksgiving, the customer who had done a complete kitchen with Finetco, was around their table in their new kitchen with family and friends and was raving about working with Finetco to build their fabulous new kitchen. One of the friends then wanted to work with Finetco to build a new kitchen...so the customer called Bill Finnegan with the referral. After thinking about family and friends sitting around kitchens and tables during Thanksgiving, Bill decided to create "Pie For Life" where any customer or contractor that builds a complete kitchen package with any Finetco location would receive a Pie For Life each year at Thanksgiving.

A week ago today, (Monday, September 12, 2022) we held our company's 15th Annual Golf Tournament put on by the Finetco Charitable Foundation (a 501c3). Since the tournament’s inception, we had raised over $300,000 for charity prior to the 2022 tournament. We are proud to say that we raised over $36,000 at the 2022 golf tournament thanks to our golfers, supporters, vendors, friends and family - without all of you, we would not be able to achieve this!

The Finetco Charitable Foundation pledges that 100% of the proceeds raised during our annual golf tournament will be distributed to charities within the areas we serve to provide much needed assistance to charities that make a difference in the lives of the people in the communities which they serve.

It is our great honor to give back to our community. We thank all of you who helped us to raise these dollars that will have a significant impact to our community.

Sherry Pare Schmitt started with Coventry Lumber in 2005. Today marks 17 years with the company.

Sherry started at Coventry Lumber doing stock with part-time flexible hours so she could work while her kids were at school back in 2005. Over the years, Sherry has learned many jobs at Coventry Lumber including in the office with accounts receivables, also working in the warehouse office as a counter person and now in her Finetco corporate roll as “Returns Specialist”. As a “Returns Specialist” Sherry gets to work with a variety of vendors, all 4 of the lumberyards and a variety of people. Sherry likes that she is able to do different things at the company and feels the days don’t get boring this way. Self described as a “jack of all trades” at Finetco, Sherry is able to fill in and help back up many rolls including backing up accounts payable and receivable. Sherry enjoys this.

When asked what has kept Sherry within the Finetco family all of these years, Sherry had this to say, “Convenience….Coventry Lumber and Finetco works with me and has stood by me.” You see, when Sherry has had family issues to deal with the company has been flexible with her from the start and up until this very day. Sherry explained that the company “trusts what I do” and she likes that. Sherry also likes the people she works with and describes it as a nice family type of place. Sherry also said that she likes what she does and likes the people she works with.

Rich Barney started at E.L. Morse Lumber 2 years ago today. In 2020, Rich was working in the financial industry in a type of work he did not love because it required that he sit at a desk most of the day and had a very rigid schedule. One weekend, Rich was with some friends who work for Finetco, and they were encouraging him to consider coming to work for the company telling him that he would make a great outside sales person. Over the coming days, Rich spoke with Finetco owner, Bill Finnegan, and Bill described the opportunity to Rich. After talking with Bill, Rich decided to take a chance and changed careers. Rich said, “the job sounded fascinating!”.

Two years later, Rich says that Bill Finnegan gave him the greatest opportunity! Rich loves working in outside sales in building products and loves working at E.L. Morse Lumber! Bill Finnegan had told Rich that working in building materials has endless opportunity because people will always be building and remodeling. Rich says he sees that now and understands it. Bill also had told Rich that he would get to be on the road meeting with contractors and builders and get to see how things are built and Rich says Bill was spot on!

When asked what Rich likes best about working in outside sales at E.L. Morse Lumber he said, “Everyday is not the same. I never know what to expect each day and it is just exciting!”. Rich went on to describe his days now being out and about and making his own schedule along with getting pulled in many directions. Rich says he loves it! Rich also said he gets a lot of guidance and help internally on how to grow and manage his time and accounts.

Dave Hindle has been in the lumber / building products business since 1970…that is 52 years in our industry! WOW!

Today technically marks Dave’s 14th year with Coventry Lumber but officially he has been part of the company through its ownership with Mike Durand at Eagle Lumber for over 25 years!

Dave started his career in our industry at Diamond Lumber in 1970 as a merchandiser and moved his way up into assistant manager and then General Manger positions. Diamond Lumber eventually became Eagle Lumber which was purchased by Mike Durand, former owner and founder of Coventry Lumber. While Mike owned Coventry Lumber and Eagle Lumber he brought Dave over to work outside sales for Coventry Lumber in 2008 where Dave has been ever since.

When asked what Dave likes most about working at Coventry Lumber he said, “most importantly, I like working with my customers and colleagues.”. Dave went on to say that in the role he has at Coventry Lumber “no two days are the same...don’t make plans because they always change!”. Dave says that he enjoys that there is not the same thing day to day in his role in outside sales, but mostly he enjoys meeting his customers needs each day.

When asked what advise he would give someone looking to start out in this industry, he shared this knowledge, “You don’t have to know all the answers yourself. Surround yourself with a great team and know where to go for answers and help”. Dave went on to say that is one of the best things about Coventry Lumber - there is a great team in place with a variety of knowledge to help!

Brad Northup started with Coventry Lumber 7 years ago today. In 2015, Brad had just moved back from Seattle and had experience with fork lift operating and working with wood, so when he saw the position open up at Coventry Lumber he applied. The timing of the opening and his move back to Coventry were perfect.

Brad has been a Yard Puller at Coventry Lumber for 7 years now. When asked why he has stayed with Coventry Lumber for 7 years, Brad said, “it (Coventry Lumber) is a really good company to work for”. Brad went on to say that he really likes the people he works with - they make the company. Brad also likes the experience he is given by the company and the ability to work with his hands. Brad went on to say that he likes the convenience of working locally as a Coventry resident with a family at home and he loves working with his hands. Brad also said that he likes that there is “not too much stress” at work and he likes the consistency of the company with his hours.

Brad’s team describes him as a hard worker who helps with everything….one of the best yard pullers with the company!

Congratulations on 7 years with us Brad! We hope you will stay for at least another 7+ years and many more to come!
