🌱 What Is Wattle?

If you’ve ever seen those long tubes placed across a construction site or along a slope, you may have wondered, “What exactly is that?”

That’s wattle! Wattle is an erosion control product designed to help slow down water, reduce erosion, and keep sediment from moving offsite.

Wattles can help:
✔️ Slow stormwater runoff
✔️ Reduce soil erosion
✔️ Trap sediment
✔️ Protect slopes and disturbed areas
✔️ Help establish vegetation

There are several types of wattles available, including straw, coconut, and synthetic options. The right choice depends on your project and site conditions.

Have questions about which wattle is right for your project? Give us a call!

From Installation to Performance

A look back at a successful project! 👷‍♀️🌱

In 2022, Superior Hydroseeding installed 8" Bionet as part of the Davenport North Cement Kiln Dust Closure Project.

It’s always great to look back at projects where the right erosion control materials were selected and installed to help provide long-term stabilization and protection.

We’re proud to have supplied materials that helped support this important closure project!

🌱 Jute Mesh in Action! 🌱

From slopes to channels, jute mesh provides natural, biodegradable erosion control while helping vegetation establish. Here are three recent installations showing how versatile and effective jute netting can be:

1️⃣ Stabilizing a hillside with new seed coverage
2️⃣ Protecting a drainage channel from soil loss
3️⃣ Reinforcing a gently sloped embankment

💪 Strong, eco-friendly, and easy to install—jute mesh works for a variety of erosion control projects!

Pros and Cons of Jute Mesh 🌱

Pros:
✔ 100% natural & biodegradable – breaks down as vegetation establishes
✔ Eco-friendly – low environmental impact
✔ Good soil stabilization – reduces erosion on slopes and disturbed areas
✔ Promotes seed germination – open weave allows sunlight and moisture through
✔ Easy to install – lightweight and flexible

Cons:
✖ Short lifespan – typically lasts 6–12 months
✖ Not ideal for high-flow areas – limited durability in heavy water conditions
✖ Lower strength than synthetic or coconut netting
✖ Can degrade faster in wet or humid environments

When to Use:
Best for temporary erosion control, low-to-moderate slopes, and projects where environmental sustainability is a priority.

How is jute made? 🌱
Jute comes from the natural fibers of the jute plant. After harvesting, the stalks are soaked in water to separate the fibers, which are then washed, dried, spun, and woven into products like jute erosion control netting.

The result? A strong, biodegradable solution that stabilizes soil while vegetation takes root—then naturally breaks down over time.
