WE’VE BEEN AROUND …
since Spuds MacKenzie was born!

LOCAL vs. CORPORATE
Being a locally owned small business, we don’t have a national TV advertising budget to tell you what we do or what we sell.
So, we are contemplating changing our name: “DAUS BUILDING SUPPLY & HARDWARE & ELECTRIC & PLUMBING & COMPLETE FULL-SERVICE LOCALLY OWNED PREMIUM LUMBERYARD “. (DBSHEPCFSLOPL for short). That pretty much says it all.
This does come with some disadvantages, however. It doesn’t fit very well on a hat. Our sign would have to be really big. We’d need a longer delivery truck.
After careful consideration, maybe it’s best to remain Daus Building Supply … our name for thirty-nine straight years.

LOCAL vs. CORPORATE
Let’s talk decision making. Corporate decisions get bogged down in lavish boardrooms with “way too many” people … with “way too many” egos…. and “way too many” opinions. Coming to a decision takes about as long as a whole baseball season!!
At Daus, we have a little “meeting” room where our local management team of three convenes. Our decisions are based on the old majority rules platform. Two out of three votes wins.
Every single business related decision is made right here in our community, for our community.
The results? A business for the people, by the people … for thirty-nine straight years.

LOCAL vs CORPORATE:
We’re a one story building on a rural corner lot. We have a purple mailbox on an orange post out by the road. You have to pull our front door to make it open. We have no board of directors, CEO or president running our business from lavish offices from afar. Instead, we have two local owners and six local employees who make ALL of our decisions. And that means: we’re approachable; we listen and get to know you; we react quickly to local needs; we can customize new products and services; and, we generously give back to our community. We’re a face-to-face kind of business.

LOCAL vs CORPORATE:
Research shows that local business owners and their employees compete by taking the time to build relationships with their customers. More importantly, taking the time to turn those relationships into friendships!!!
The photos below show a project we did for a customer turned “friend”. After a hospital stay, one of our “friends” required a ramp to access his house. The Daus Services team prioritized this project and designed and built the ramp in time for his return home!

Small business owners are roughly 250% more likely to donate to local charities, youth sports teams, and schools compared to national chains. And boy do we have a soft spot for the youth of our community. We proudly present the 2025 and 2026 Daus Hammerheads Little League Baseball teams.
