Back in 1968, Shakertown was building mills and shaping the cedar industry. The Pe Ell shake mill became part of our history of craftsmanship that still drives us today. Proud roots. Strong future.
FROM THE ARCHIVES: "A Shake Mill is being constructed at Pe Ell by Shakertown Corporation, Winlock. The burner has been constructed and prefabricated metal building is next. Kenneth M. Smith, Pe Ell, will be manager of the new mill. The plant will have four shake machines with an employment of 14 men anticipated. The Winlock firm has mills at Copalis Crossing, Cathlamet, Forks, Toledo and Winlock. The mill will produce shakes for use primarily on the West Coast." — originally published by The Daily Chronicle on Sept 20, 1968
