THIS is how change happens.
Real impact isn’t made by arguing in comment sections, it’s made by showing up, getting involved and working together to create solutions.
If you’re able, get out into your community. Find local organizations, nonprofits and advocacy groups making a difference and be part of that change. If online advocacy is your primary outlet, use your voice to educate, encourage, and inspire rather than divide and just create hostility. Things are so easily said when sitting down typing behind a screen.
Our disability community has enough challenges without fighting amongst ourselves. It’s time to replace toxicity with teamwork, criticism with compassion, and division with unity. After all, don’t we all want the same thing? Greater accessibility, inclusion and opportunities for everyone.
I’m incredibly proud to have helped organize my first major city event. While I wasn’t able to attend the interview due to current crowd restrictions from chemo, our President, Chris Flynt, did an amazing job representing us. Seeing the news coverage and having the mayor attend was an incredible honor.
And we’re just getting started.
For the past two years, I’ve had the privilege of speaking at the National ADA Conference. This year, I’ll not only be speaking I’ll also be helping plan the 36th Annual Conference and will be running it.
None of this happens alone. It happens when passionate people come together with a shared goal and a willingness to do the work.
Be the difference. Support one another. Create change.
