Our crews have started work at the Illinois State Monument in Vicksburg National Military Park, setting beams for a heavy-duty access platform to support upcoming restoration activities.
The Tradesmen Group is leading the effort to restore and preserve this significant structure, which stands as a tribute to the 36,000 Illinois soldiers who fought in the Civil War’s Vicksburg Campaign. Over the next four weeks, scaffold will be erected around the monument’s exterior, over the dome and throughout the interior to provide full access for conservation crews. The project will then move into a 10-month phase of bronze and masonry conservation, ensuring the long-term stability and preservation of this historic landmark.
