York Store employee Avery Connatser traveled to Indianapolis to complete in the National FFA competition with her classmates from SRTC.
As a team they took the silver metal!
On an individual scale Avery Connatser won Bronze in floriculture.
People hear floriculture and think it’s just floral arranging, but floriculture is the science of growing and marketing ornamental and flowering plants.
Placing in floriculture requires broad and deep horticulture knowledge. Students had to identify plants from a list of over 300 Latin names, identify plant pests and disease in real time, calculate fertilizer and pesticide ratios, correctly use and identify greenhouse equipment, create a marketing display from scratch as a team, do a live sales pitch to a judge, perform plant propagation, and complete a general knowledge exam in ADDITION to making “wearable” prom-style flowers and funeral flower arrangements for the judge.
Congratulation Avery we are so proud of you!
