FAR Diesel Power Services
travelled to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) last week to perform a site visit at a Copper/Cobalt Mine that’s recently re-opened. The mine has 3 Main Generating Plants & a 120kV Mains supply & internal ring networks linking them all up together. Another complex installation with ComAp Hardware we were previously involved with before the mine was closed just prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Next phase is the 120kV forward & reverse synchronising to multiple Mains Incomers. The programming is already done, next trip to re-test the Phasing, Protection, Metering & then perform the live 120kV Sync.

Our FAR Diesel SPtM designed standard solution for Single Genset MicroGrid Systems. This particular MicroGrid is at a School in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. System consists of a Scania Group 550kVA Genset, 2 x 110KVA Huawei FusionSolar Inverters & a Utility Supply.

This system utilizes ComAp Group InteliSys, InteliVision8, InteliFieldbus Gateway, & an Internet Bridge 4G for remote coms to the WebsuperVisor cloud server.

This solution is fully configurable on the fly as we provide the user an array of setpoints to easily adjust the behaviour & setup of the MicroGrid. Besides the Genset & Mains control, we have pre-programmed algorithms for PV_P, & PV_Q Control. Also included is an automatic Inverter Fallback Timer mitigation program that always lets the Inverter know that the requests are healthy & has not frozen nor failed. This prevents some brands of inverters from rejecting the remote Modbus TCP requests if they don’t change value within a specified time & falling back to predefined default values. We will soon be adding a BESS support for some upcoming sites.

The Solar Plant taking shape at one of our customers sites in Zimbabwe. Approx. 65,000 PV panels to be erected to provide the 20MVA+ renewable energy. This we will integrate into the ComAp control system that currently controls a complex system of 33KV AutoTap Transformers, 33kV Auto-reclosers, 33kV & 6.6kV Mains Incomers, 22MVA Diesel Gensets, 33kV/6.6kV Synchronizing Bus Ties….all linked together over Fiber & spaced kilometers apart.

*Inter-controller CAN converter – the new digital solution for communication between ComAp and Deep Sea Electronics controllers*

We are pleased to announce the new Inter-controller CAN converter (ICCC), a solution for communication between ComAp and Deep Sea Electronic paralleling controllers within one site. Where analog load sharing has always been available across platforms, ComAp’s cutting-edge technology allows for a digital load sharing gateway.

Acting as a communication bridge, the ICCC supports load and VAr sharing among all controllers within a site. The dead bus closing feature ensures that controllers communicate over the CAN link to determine which controller closes onto the dead bus first, protecting generators and other devices from potential damage.
