Matt, Sheen or Gloss: What Works Best Where?
The right finish matters as much as the right colour. Here's a quick guide.
Matt
A soft, low-reflective finish that hides small bumps and imperfections in walls. It's best for lounges, bedrooms and ceilings, anywhere that doesn't take much wear.
Sheen (low or mid sheen)
A gentle lustre that's tougher and much easier to wipe clean than matt. It's best for kitchens, bathrooms, passages and kids' rooms, where walls get touched, splashed and scuffed.
Gloss
A hard-wearing, high-shine finish that stands up to knocks and cleaning. It's best for doors, door frames, skirtings, window frames and trims.
Pro tip: Many people go matt on the walls and gloss on the woodwork. The contrast gives a room a crisp, finished look.
