So let's talk DENSITY !!

Over the last few days we have had approx 20 enquiries from potential new snail farmers. There seems to be a perception that on 1 000m² of land you can produce a yield of 10 TONS of mature snail (yes and in some cases 26 tons on 1 000m²)

For Helix Aspersa Muller we work on an average of 10 grams per purged snail - so approx 100 snails per 1 kg.

So 10 TONS will be approx 1 000 000 fully grown snails ...
or 1 000 snails per m². This means each snail is required to do their ablusions, eat, exercise and have sufficicent shade protection on 1 SQUARE CENTIMETE of space ??

NOW imagine a lift build to accommodate 10 people - if 3 people are in the lift and one coughs ... possibly the other two DON'T get sick because there is some space between each person - if the same lift is filled with 20 people, if one coughs, chances are everybody will land up sick because the so y are densely packed together.

DENSITY is very important if you want to raise healthy snails - DO NOT OVER CROWD YOUR SNAILERY .. You are putting the entire population at risk.

Even if you include the additional space created by using feeding boards and curtains you will not produce these volumes.

Rule of thumb - 20 tons yield from 1 HECTARE or 10 000 M²
