Our subscribers have had a couple of hours head start, and they have left some BEAUTIES on the table! With over 150 varieties still in stock, there’s something for everyone :)

We don’t just grow dahlias, we also have a ridiculous number of daffodils, bearded iris and other collectables! We hope to have a small number of specialist daffodil bulbs available to purchase this year as our three-yearly divide takes place.
Once the dahlias are sorted of course 🤣

The last few days have felt very summer-y indeed! Even down to a bushfire in our area (although thankfully still a comfortable distance away). Still, jobs to be done, tubers to plant, and a healthy 450 already in the ground 😍

Bed prep is nearly complete, ready to hopefully start planting dahlias next week. It’s been a hard slog, there was a LOT of onion grass, running grass and about twelve types of weeds 🫠
But the fun part is nearly here!!
And yes, Leo was actually raking, and doing a pretty great job!

We’ve got some new things happening in the patch this year (any excuse to use the excavator), hopefully it will be taking shape by the Hobart Dahlia Section field day in early Feb!

We’ve had lots of messages from people keen to buy tubers and we have an update!
Our tubers are STUBBORN! 🤣
So we’re taking a punt and delaying our sale until October.

Anyone that’s knows the dahlia business knows that a late sale is a bit risky, but we’re more about getting quality stock to people than making a quick buck. We might even do something a bit different and support our local customers first!

Keep an eye out for updates, in the meantime we’re right there with you trying to squeeze more space out of our growing areas 🙈

Spring is definitely here! Today is day three of warm weather in southern Tassie 😍
The catch, we’ve had cold temps for all of winter, and the tubers are still slumbering. So the plan for us?
Plan A - our tubers pop and we’ll have a sale towards the end of September
Plan B - we plant first, and have a larger sale in October!
Either way we have a good number of our 450+ varieties, and are looking at listing around 250-300 of those 😱
Oh and we’re increasing our growing area again this year!

Some might say we’re a bit nuts for dahlias 🤣

The moral of the story… get your soil tested!

We had an inkling our soil was a little overcooked when the 2025 season saw a ridiculous amount of ‘accessory’ tuber growth. You know the ones, tubers growing off of tubers that make you think you have a nice big clump, when all you really have is more feed for the sheep 🙈
So last season we toned the fertilising RIGHT down. Minimal at planting, and two foliar feeds. Healthy plants, a little slow to take off, but good flowering and way less redundant tubers!
Soil tests done this winter… our soil is rather over done on pretty much everything! But the pH is great so there’s a win!
The plan for this year is… nothing! No fertilising until they’re actively growing, and even then only after plant material testing. It’ll take a few seasons to adjust the levels through active management of dahlias and green crops, but for now - the memo is do some soil testing people!! 🤣
Oh, and it probably means I can plant even closer as a way of increasing uptake - win!!

Nobody panic! The website isn’t broken, it just needs some TLC (thanks for those lovely messages letting us know some aspects were a little wonky!)
We’ll be back up and running ready for sale season before you know it! For those planners out there, we’re aiming for late September at this stage!

When you’re neck deep in dividing it’s important to remember that these ugly, stubborn, sometimes stinky tubers turn into the most beautiful of flowers!

Our clumps are nearly all divided, we should hopefully be finished by the end of next week, with our website fully updated by the end of August. Our tuber sale will be sometime in September - totally dependant on how quickly the tubers wake up!
In the meantime if you need to squirrel away some tax return dollars gift cards are available in our store!
